If you want to monitor how much they are going in and out perhaps a trail camera might give you what you want. Discrete they will take pictures when triggered by any inra red source intheir field of view. If spottted you are looking for foxes / rats / whatever. Humans are infra red sources as well of course!

Will look at that, thanks Appin. Doesn't matter if they spot it or not, my garden and none of their business. If asked I'd just say so that we know who's creeping around our garden.
