When my Wife was at home looking after the girls in particular, she managed the money I brought in. Made sure the girls had school uniform, the pantry was full, budgeted for all the bills, etc.
I have to agree my wife was born into farming family a grow up knowing how to live in the country and I guess what she learned could be called prepping, she now runs the home ,help around the farm ,rises our children and finds time to be an active member of the WI were she make some of the best pickles jams and preserves you will ever find
Women have been prepares for a lot longer then anyone else take a look at the history of the WI , they know how to can and preserve food , make do and mend etc , the fact is the WI was the first main stream preppers group in the UK . It's not just about guns and the end of the world it's about making sure your family has what it needs in bad times whether that's disasters, wars, civil unrest or illness they will have what they need to ride it out.
Yes I too am Female. I was always taught to Prep but in my day it was make sure you've got some extra tins in. My Nan had lived through WW2 and luckily didn't starve as she grew her own veg and kept Rabbits which obviously they ate. These was a time when certain times of the year especilally at Christmas no shops were open so if you'd forgotten something you'd have to go without which might upset your household so you made sure you didn't. If you were a one car family and your husband was using it for work and one of your children was ill obviously you weren't able to go to a Chemist so you made sure you had the necessary items in yout meds cabinet. To me it just boils down to Common Sense.
I find the public's view concerning Preppers - SAD. Is to do with their mind set that they can always find a Convenience Store that is open 24/7
I could go on but others have already written the reasons.

Prepper is such a broad title though, we're just another section that gets 'judged' by using the dafter or more extreme elements and understandably the press are happy to sell papers on the back of the 'weirdos' (whichever brand of weirdo is getting it tight at the time). There are loads of groups that have got a poor reputation, an obvious one for me is football fans but getting back to the prepper 'stereotype', some of them don't do themselves (or the rest of us) any favours. Saying that, I don't really care what people think, I don't broadcast my prepping and it doesn't involve heading to the woods (pity, I used to really enjoy that stuff), I'm more of a hoarder than a warrior fighting the zombie apocalypse so its pretty discrete and low key.
Im not sure i like this thread, i try and show my friends things on here and they cannot see them because they are not members and i know them, or is it my paranoia?

I was under the impression that everything on here was publicly visible and that was one of the main reasons we take care on hypothetical topics? not that it's a bad policy in any case
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

If you log out, some rooms are not visible. This is normal for forums, it means that members MUST agree to the forum rules, and be logged in, to access specific areas
I'm sure one day a journalist will do a positive piece on prepping but after the recent BBC piece I wouldn't hold my breath. They always get people on board by saying the right thing but will generally only go for the sensational when the article appears in print. Personally I wouldn't bother.

I agree there No media ever mentions the GO IN STAY IN TUNE IN which IIRC was brought in after 7/7 any more and they spent a fortune printing / distributing it ... even with recent events and a quick google / youtube there isnt much on line about it.. .....
Even worse is the official web address http://www.preparingforemergencies.gov.uk/ in the book is now dead.... and goggle digs this up as it trys to tell you that you must have miss typed the url...
which is well err rather a satirical pee take out of the idea. but undermines the whole concept .. Just hope posting the url doesn't get me scratched from here as thats what google defaulted me to... must admit i did find it rather amusing however it does contain political refferences please dont ban me you lovely mods ...
Anyone still got the environment agency flood pack with the super waterproof flood information printed on red PVC allong the sticker pack and cheap leaky zip lock bag to put your insurance documents in ? which the media ridiculed as presenters stuck the bag filled with pretend paperwork in a bucket or old fish tank to show that the bag leaked rather than offer any more help / advice on the issue of you / your house getting soggy
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
