Hello - I am a journalist at The Times and am looking for female preppers in the UK. I have read so much about prepping but there's an assumption in most of the material I have read that all preppers are men. I don't think this is actually the case and I am wondering whether female preppers have a different outlook or concerns than male preppers. Presumably men and women have different requirements also. If you are a woman and can speak to me, please get in touch. My name is Stefanie Marsh and work at The Times as a feature writer.
Thank you. My email address is stefaniemarsh@yahoo.com.
All the best,
Stefanie
Calling all female preppers
Re: Calling all female preppers
Thankyou for the intro and welcome to the forum.
We generally do not approve memberships from journalists, however in this case we will let it run, as we may have a lady prepper or two who might be interested in contacting you. Our members are a good bunch and I will have no hesitation in rescinding your membership should you cause any upset.

Re: Calling all female preppers
Strikes me as a little on the lazy side, this an openly visible forum, which if you took the time to read would see that many of the main active members are indeed female, you will not get a balanced view by waiting for the ones who don't mind a bit of exposure to come forward, reading the forum on the other hand you'll see that in the main we just don't want to be caught with our pants down by every day disasters, the women here, the experienced ones are a gold mine of wisdom, I dare say wise enough to steer clear of the media
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

My own feeling is she's a drive by, just throwing out requests wherever in the hope of getting a few responses. Like you said Plympton, lazy journalism. I doubt we will hear from her again.

I think regardless if she comes back or not or her motives the end story will be tainted to make us look like nut jobs waiting for the zombie apocalypse….
Its nice to think shes genuine and interested but the main stream media and newspapers have mocked prepping for a long time now.. Ive never seen a untainted review yet on tv without the odd snipe at us…
Sad really…

Re: Calling all female preppers
I'd have thought a feature writer at The Times would probably have an email address that names The Times, not yahoo.com. I was contacted by a BBC journalist recently, and that's how I checked her out, going to her BBC ID.
Did a bit of digging *before* posting - there is a journalist of that name there, and a website about journalists says there's no email account listed for her - so it might actually be a ST journalist. She does have a twitter account, and there's lots of supportive posts about staffies

Re: Calling all female preppers
Its occurred to me at drunk o'clock in the morning that there are plenty female posters on here that would be more than capable of putting their point across very well. It might actually give a more balanced view to the general perception of preppers. I'm not advocating it, if there was a journalist looking to interview George Clooney lookalike preppers* I would still be giving it a swerve but each to their own.

Re: Calling all female preppers
Well I was going to answer this with a resalable reply but it started to get to the point that it was a rant against the media and how they portray us so I wiped it. And that is why we do not like talking to the medai

My Yahoo address filters spam much less enthusiastically than the Times account, that's why I prefer to use it. By all means contact me at The Times.
I could email you all individually but I was worried that it would feel weird and uncomfortable for a person to be contacted out of the blue by a journalist.
