I'm chuffed to bits, actually Could you do me a favour on this thread? Could you (or pseudonym) post a link to a micro USB card on ebay, so I'm sure what I need to look at? I just looked on there now, and there's "readers" for sale as well. If I need one, I'll buy one, but I've no idea I just don't have enough knowledge to buy the right stuff, and I wouldn't trust a shop at all with this stuff.

It's comes as a package, The small one on the right is the Micro SD Card, you want a larger capacity one though. If you are buying a new Kindle they can take a larger card now.

The Adapter on the left allows you to use it in your laptop.

ASDA, Tesco etc sell them if that helps you.

So in my set up I have a range of items allowing me to swap data between tech. Starting with normal USB sticks, they were cheap and held lots of data. These are good for some tablets and laptops, PC's etc. To make these accessible for mobile phones I bought a number of these:

These go in the end of the USB stick (normal) and convert it to a micro USB attachment.

Then I have a number of these:

These allow me to switch data from any number of SD cards. Again the main outlet is standard USB, but can be converted using the micro adaptor.

It's all related to money but technology is improving and I'll soon be switching to these:

These offer total flexibility. I have something similar, a stick with USB 2.0 (the normal ones) to USB C (the curvy round ends that modern mobiles are switching to) but I need my adaptor for some of my tech that uses micro USB's.

In addition to these (yes, it does get complex keeping on top of it which is why I'll be swapping to the one above ) I have these:

These you have to be careful with, they are good for charging purposes, they work everytime. For swapping info however, some are a little temperamental.

If you have the budget, switch to the multi all-in-one USB stick, I intend to!

It has a miserable 8gigs, nearly half of which are used for the software it comes with. So even a 16GB card would triple what I have available on the phone. Thats a separate issue, if it was just lodged inside the phone and stayed there.

Oh! Now, this little gadget, I like That goes on the end of a normal USB drive connector to turn it into a micro USB connector, yes? I've been using flash drives with normal USB connectors for a lifetime, so this would certainly help with my phone. I could buy a couple of these, one for use, one for backup, no problem.

This looks **amazing** I love this. It can understand older tech, its futureproofed, its fairly sizeable (64G - 2 of those more than cover my whole laptop contents, though now I've set my camera to take 4MB photos, I'm taking 20G a year. Not to worry.) My external hard drive is 250G I think, plenty for now, but its still quite heavy - if I had to get out of Dodge, as they say, 3 of these round my neck, and I'm sorted, I'd hardly feel it.

To Buy
1. The micro SD card that pseudonym linked to (or a larger one), to be fitted inside my phone, which has pathetic memory. I could then back it up to an AreTop flash drive.
Cost: £10 - £20

1a. A larger microSD card to be permanently inserted inside my kindle.
Cost: c£30.

1b. As an alternative to 1a. above, I could buy a new kindle fire 7, £60, plus a microSD card to expand to 512 GB
Cost: £60 plus 512GB micro SD card, cost currently unknown. I'd like to try alternative 1a first, tobe honest, but that kindle is 7 years old now, thats pretty old.

2. USB to micro usb converter shim, to let me carry on using the flash drive I've got, which is still useful.
Cost: £4

3. The AreTop flash drives - 3 would futureproof backup for my laptop, one other would futureproof backup for both my kindle and my phone.
Cost: £10.59 x 4 = £42.36.

Total cost, a minimum of £86.36 (which is amazing!) up to £156.36 plus the 512GB micro usb card. Still pretty effing amazing, I really like the idea that so many tech needs and wants would be addressed by this.

OK all, hold fire on the AreTop multi 3-1 USB sticks.

Ordered two and they came pronto, but that's Amazon.

Downloaded my library onto one, perfect. USB C works, USB A (normal) works, micro USB didn't work. Thought I'd try the second one, the USB A (the normal one) didn't work.

So hold fire on those! I'm going to try a couple of other brands and see if they work better.

Thanks for letting us know so fast! So far, I've only bought a little microSD card with reader, 32G, for the inside of my phone. I'm going to try it in my kindle, and if it works, buy another one for that. Will deffo hold fire on the AreTop, drat! As it is, my external hard drive will be getting a good workout.
