not telling my son - semi auto .308 or .223 = empty piggy banks forever.
why?
Because he goes through enough one at a time or cycling them manually, give him a semi auto .308 or .223 and he would play like he does with a .22LR putting a box of 50 of .308s or .223s even 25 12 bore slugs beside him can be an expensive mistake if You let it be ( when he's got a job later he can buy em) Practical shotgun if it weren't for the recoil would be an issue too.
Thinking more about it I prefer more traditional shaped stocks ( I like a 10 round mag though) and bolt action rifles, target barrel yes but not high tech or military style, which leads me back to the OP air rifle, my first one long gone was a Diana break barrel simple iron sights, much like my current 20 year old BSA supersport carbine, and the club's bolt action BSA, they get the job done and have a tactile beauty about them, even in the simplest form with no decorative carving on the stock, good for us because they tend to be less expensive too
The original airgun in question may to those who like that sort of thing look cool, to those who know no different it may look menacing, but it wouldn't knock granny off of the P133 pot so is unfit for purpose, I'm not in the aggressive stance club and feel to try and deter by looking "hard" is simply painting a target on oneself (there's always a bigger fish) the grey man approach as many say here suits me and the real world much better, to further explain needs the background information that I have great respect for our armed forces and feel that dressing like them (may be OK if hunting game or pest control) is a bit of an insult, similar to a crap Elvis impersonator, Duck Dynasty further complicates the camouflage issue for me in that like Ozzy I feel for them, like them, find them amusing, but to dress like them may imply a similar disposition on the intelligence front

That and a couple of weeks back an idiot got caught going in the local woods after deer with a crossbow.
I pretty much always weigh in on shooting related threads because it was those threads and the sensible shooters here which stirred my interest to go down that road and have some fun, and fun (target shooting) is good enough reason to own things like high capacity shotguns, it matters not whether you have an air pistol, a bow and arrow, or an AX50, there are clubs in the UK you can go to and enjoy the sport for the fun ( and community ) that it is, outside that there is of course pest control and hunting with permission, shooting is a major sport, archery too in the UK, I keep saying at least be honest with yourself and do it or get on because you want one and want to have legitimate fun with it, in case TSHTF is not sufficient reason for me to have or desire anything which can be used as a weapon, neither does owning such things make me feel an awful lot safer, they do however give the family a shared hobby or two, a community to be a part of, find friends with similar interests, Steveo, Andy, Briggs, and all the other happy shooters around these parts are sensible responsible folk doing what they enjoy, join them and have fun

I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
