I have a standard pension that I have paid into since I was 18 im 35 years old now. I have owned two houses and lost them both owned a successful business and lost that as well I play one day at a time at the moment. My ideal world would be to live totally self sufficient off grid. Not going to happen in the UK though I don't think. I also have a firm belief that things are coming to breaking point in the UK and all over the world and if I am right in that then pensions and big houses will not matter much anymoreJ23 wrote:and what about your future? you preper for shtf and you don't prepare for normal steady retirement?Sirmattyb wrote:...I like to live life and have fun!!!

I also fear that West Europe will collapse but I keep hoping it won't so I focus on investments. BTW: http://galicianrustic.com/ check this out - you can have your own place in Spain for 10k Euro - ruined house with bit of land - looks cool for me.
also if you fear UK will collapse try to invest in abroad property - for example flat in Poland. small 1 bed flat in new build block will cost you 30k in less popular Cities, and there are safe areas with nice people, lot's of woodland and it is nice place to live when you have money. maintenance fees will be about 100 quid including hot and cold water and central heating, plus cleaning of public areas.
Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
trouble with buying property abroad even if its cheap, is that come SHTF your that "rich foreigner"(well your rich compared to the locals) down the road, guess who their going to loot and rob first???
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

but shtf may happen just in some countries, not all of them.
Once I stand on my feet I will try to buy something in Poland and hopefully go back home some day
Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
yeah true, but the way things are going its going to be any country in the EU,its only a matter of time, there are cheap (really cheap) properties in Bulgaria but I wouldn't want to be there when the balloon goes up!!! at least here I know the customs and can speak the language and know the countryside and where I can go to hide and not be found, over there I'd be a fish out of water.J23 wrote:

Bulgaria is nice for holidays, as about people - they are like everywhere else. I was walking down the streets there unnoticed by crowd, looks a bit different on the seaside where street sellers see you're a tourist. but in mid of Bulgaria it's like everywhere else, there are good and bad placeslonewolf wrote:yeah true, but the way things are going its going to be any country in the EU,its only a matter of time, there are cheap (really cheap) properties in Bulgaria but I wouldn't want to be there when the balloon goes up!!! at least here I know the customs and can speak the language and know the countryside and where I can go to hide and not be found, over there I'd be a fish out of water.J23 wrote:

but as about the next crisis. it is really just a matter of time. you cannot borrow money forever. bankrupcy of one country can start chain reaction that will lead to some really serious shit
Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
yes, I agree with you there, Greece first, then probably Spain followed by Portugal and Italy, even France is not immune and Germany certainly cant pay all the bills for ever.J23 wrote:
