Look here - this is where I live. Imagine trying to find / build shelter in this place in winter, where we've had minus 20 the last two years..

Carrot Cruncher wrote:I know what you are saying paul, but even in a SHTF scenario it is not as simple as city = bad, rural = good. Look at the Ukraine when Stalin was persecuting them, it was the rural poor that died in their millions and in some cases were resorting to cannabalism. Look at places today in Africa, where for some TS is hitting TF big tme, it is the rural villages that are getting attacked in DRC by rebels and militias, men killed and women and children raped....people leave the villages and move to the cities for relative safety.

In rural areas bands of militias can go about their business untouched as the area is too large to secure with not enough people to defend themselves, towns and cities will have some security even if it is just the last bit of authority left or security organised by the people themselves.

In some instances rural would be better, in some instances urban would be better but without a crystal ball no one can say which is going to be better.

Me personally, I would happily live miles from anyone but MrsCC wouldn't want that so we have got a compromise that suits us both

Very very well said :D

Original post 28/02/2011 on British Preppers(now defunct), heading:IMAGINE 6MONTHS AFTER TSHTF. NO fuel or power means NO bins get emptied or streets cleaned, 6months of rubbish line the streets including human waste as people take to using alleys and stairways as toilets, millions of cars, buses and trucks litter the streets, victims of crime, disease and starvation are left to rot in the streets because there is no one to collect them, no fuel to cremate them or transport them and the temporary cemeteries in the parks are full. plenty of disease carrying rats, crows and pigeon flourish as they feed on the dead and the waste, and people still trap them for food which because of fuel shortages often gets eaten undercooked, the spread of disease is rampant, bubonic and pnuemonic plague which has never been total eradicated in the UK returns to terrorise the survivors. the subways and underground lines are abandoned and flooded as the power to the lines and the power to the pumps was what kept the tunnels dry. parts of the city are still smouldering ruins after desperate survivors had accidents with knocked over candles, fuel leaks or other accidents that caused fires in most tower blocks, no water left in the sprinkler systems. no fire and rescue came to help as they too are long out of fuel and anyway most roads are blocked with abandoned vehicles or barricaded by gangs of survivors .the streets are not safe to walk either by day or night as they have been taken over by the vicious, violent street gangs.

Well,at that point,I think you WOULD move elsewhere.I think after six months of chaos you would have a clue there was no help coming!

Running to the hills is NOT what you do just because there's a 3day powercut!
That may all sound hypocritical, given my view of BOB's and bugging out. However, your situation will determine what you chuck in a bag and where you run to( not some fantasy list of Boy's Toy's).

it will probably take the sheeple 6 months to realise that help isnt coming, the point is, just running to the hills is not an option, you would need somewhere in mind, an old cottage, some unused farm buildings, a scout hut, or a seaside chalet maybe, just running around in the woods or up a mountain isnt going to work, as i said previously, you need four walls and a roof, otherwise come winter you freeze to death, especially in the winters we've had recently.
