The laptop died with the failure of it's 'v' key which locked down. I.e., laptop quite useless. Now the amount of stuff I could have lost access to is enormous. Gazillion passwords to all sorts of finance and business related stuff.

I pulled out the spare lappy, with the hope of transferring drives across, but that had a duff battery and power brick. Fortunately, my techy friend talked me through disconnecting the internal keyboard to use an external one on the original lappy.

Within minutes I'd ordered a replacement keyboard and a replacement spare lappy off the bay. When they arrive, I'll be setting up full standby redundancy.

Passwords live in lastpass, but with no proper access to the internet, I would not have had convenient access to anything, not even the ability to order off ebay.

2 is 1 and 1 is none..... and I came that close.
Do you not have a smartphone? You should be able to access internet, order things like a new computer, and access passwords all on that. Personally, my phone and desktop computer are more or less identical. Most things I do on computer eg create or amend a Note, go straight to phone.

That's a problem with laptops - if the keyboard is knackered, the whole thing is knackered. I use a Mac Mini, so the keyboard and trackpad is separate. I have spares, plus a wired keyboard and mouse just in case.

I don't have a spare computer. I backup using Time Machine (Apple) to three tiny external drives, which are encrypted (in case I get burgled). If my computer died, I'd use my phone to order a new one. Most of the info on it is in the cloud anyway.

Re passwords, I have four managers, but that is overkill. Two is ok. Apple Passwords is one. Firefox has a built in one. I also use Bitwarden, as a separete manager.

Quick note about passwords on iPhones (and desktops). On my phone, I disabled the others, with only Bitwarden enabled in Autofill And Passwords in Settings. Still, the flipping phone offers to generate a password when creating a log-in in Firefox, but doesn't save it in Bitwarden, Firefox or anywhere! That's an iPhone issue, not Bitwarden or Firefox. Solution is to create it manually in Bitwarden first, ignoring iPhone's offer/suggestion. Or have it enabled for Firefox, and use that. Always worth copying a password generated in a website though, and then checking it's in FF or whatever.

I run an analog passcode retention system...... A notebook.

You'd have to break in to my house and search through a stack of notebooks, then read my lousy handwriting to get illicit access..... Most burglars are after jewellery, cash, credit cards and small electronics (my computer is a massive base unit with four hard-drives in it that used to be a small server).

I don't bank on my phone

Ordered repeat meds - on my phone! Am slightly ahead now. I don't like having no cushion. At one time I built up quite a reserve, but it shrank back when they changed my dose. It only takes a minute. I use Pharmacy2U. They get delivered a few days later by Royal Mail.

Got an Amazon delivery later today including some AAA batteries for my emergency grab bag.

Got a sore patch on my hand. I think it's caused by soap. So I'm going to try to eliminate soap contact, using a combination of disposable nitrile gloves, washing up gloves, some special soap-free shower gel. And also use plenty of Zero cream and vaseline. I've ordered some cotton gloves to wear when I've got cream on.

Had a weird optical illusion experience. One of the new houses at the back has a tall brick shed in it's garden. From my window I could see the whole wall, only now there is a fence in front. But from my garden I could only see the roof. Thought I was going mad, but it's just the angle really. Anyway, I inspected the back. The new gardens end at a fence that goes to the middle of next door's wall. Mine, and half of next door's wall still backs onto the school. My anti-burglar plants seem to have died. Probably got trampled when the ivy was trimmed. There's no point in worrying about burglars though, because whatever I do, they can climb over the wall next door, and over the fence to mine. Having said that, I'll probably have another go at growing something spiky at the back. They'll get more light now the ivy's trimmed back.

Well after 10 years of hard and fast ( pun intended) management of my pre diabetes, age and time have caught up with me despite all my efforts. ( family history so no real surprise)

48 hrs in Acute Care Bays in Leicester Royal Infirmary flushing ketones out of my system whilst adding insulin sees my fingertips looking like they've all been hit by a hammer and my arms like a nail gun was let loose.

Now safely at home juggling my dosage of 2 types of insulin until I and more importantly the diabetic nurse are happy.

All the foods I disposed of ( those that have been around long enough will know the food banks were stocked up well) were back on the NHS menu.

Wish me well, for the sake of my stomach and the holes appearing

I went in with trepidation as my Father caught Covid in there and although other causes were listed I think it had a major factor in his death 6 months later.

I was pleasantry surprised with the care and dedication of all I came into contact with from porters, cleaning staff, catering staff, nurses and Drs,

Not happy with the pharmacists or diabetic team with their in fighting which kept me in there for an extra 36 hrs
