I've done that with my keys before, when I've felt vulnerable, I'm getting older now but I'm a stocky chap.. always have been and I wouldn't mind betting my size and demeanor has saved me from trouble without my even being aware I was in danger in previous years, nowadays I keep my eyes peeled and listen hard as I walk about the town, a kid tried to scare me once last year in a little group, he did startle me, funnily enough he was the only one in the group who found it amusing, I think he was too full of himself to notice the darkness he roused behind my eyes
still, more than one way to.. as the saying goes and some one who startles you imprints their image in your mind as good as a photo
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
