Household items that double as defence

Right, I'm a person who likes to be prepared, hence being on this site. I thought I'd share my defence apparatus list, incase anyone was interested.

My defences against looters are all legitimate because they have an alternative use. By this I mean they do not fall under the offensive weapons act until you hit someone with them!

Most of these items have been bought with a view to the possibility they might one day save my or my familes lives, without getting me in trouble for owning them in the meantime like a moody converted replica pistol or can of CS spray would.

I currently have, in various locations:

2x 6D cell maglites (with LED upgrades)
An alloy baseball bat (had since I was 12)
Tow rope (Don't knock it, flat braided line with a 1kg hook on the end!)
Machete (Gardening)
Axe and hatchet (trees)
Skinning knives (Hunting, fishing)
6x12 bore shotguns and 2 .22 rifles (Hunting, I have 250 acres of land available to me to shoot on at my leisure)

On ebay and various other sites you can also buy a torch that is shaped like a baseball bat and about 18" long; according to a police officer friend, completely legal until you hit someone with it, not unlike those baseball bat stop-locks for the car. Food for thought!

Thinking of dual use, don't forget wasp killer, or even hair spray ...

Think of anything in your house , a chair , laptop , pot , tv,kettle of boiled water, doesn't have to be the "extream" measures remember that when order is restored you may have to account for your actions ,remember keep it legal folks .

Thought I'd give my 2 pence on this thread. I study Krav Maga in which we practice using everyday objects as improvised weapons. So great list, remember the world is your oyster or rather think one mind, any weapon!

Having said that as far as using any of your improv weapons in a non WROL situation, it is a crime to deliberately store a weapon or an item intended to be used as such with a view to using it (even in defence). Believe it or not, hiding a baseball bat under your bed could be construed as a premeditated assault. Be careful. I have a friend who is a serving officer and his advise to another friend who kept a baseball bat in his car was to carry a baseball glove also, so he could say he carried it for genuine use. It all so bizarre I can hardly stand it but it's true.

Sorry to be pedantic , but I would Nick you for having a bat and a glove , tell me how you could play with out a ball ??? Remember if you have a story make sure it's full proof . Sorry

Yes, that was considered when I purchased each item.. the bat I have had since I was 12, I bought it in Florida on a family holiday. Massive torch lives next to the bed purely incase we have a power cut (wink).

I'm looking more at a, 'the whole world has gone to shit, there are no rules, just SURVIVE' situation, I figure if I've got to the point I feel the need to arm myself and live in the garage things are worse than I can possibly imagine lol

surely the idea of this thread was to use items which are every day items in the home. You cant get in trouble for using things which are to hand surely. As preppers we may have a few additional items i.e. for bushcraft knives, machettes,axes etc

Surely if someone breaks in and we use any item on them in defence, provided it is not extreme we are not doing anything wrong, or am I being too niave?
