Re: Aldi buys
Received my manual soya bean grinder for making soya milk. Tried it will walnuts and it made a nice nut spread for my rice cakes. Think i will probably use it for that as well as soft fruits more than soya beans. i have still to try it on soaked beans though.
Also experimented with it grinding fruit and vegetables. it struggled a bot with celery, but that is to be expected considering how stringy celery is.

Back from an over night camp with the scouts one of the other leaders had a couple of these for his tent great wee things gave off plenty of light and better than the 4D battery lantern I used. Off to get a couple tomorrow
Not planning for the end of the world just to survive till normality resumes, while sticking to the scout moto be prepared!
Still considering do I want to survive the end of the world or deck chair on the front lawn with a cold beer?

Got me 2 dry bags, used to use these for canoe expeds and sailing. They are good quality and cheap!
Re: Aldi buys
Other half picked up the penknife or multi-functional knife as they call it which for £1.99 is worth a punt.
Plus points is stainless steel, cheap and more tools than my SAK . Bad points are firstly the edges aren't particularly sharp and all need touching up before use , the awl being the bluntest of the lot. The magnifying glass was loose and needs a dab of glue and some of the tools such as the scissors are awkward to get out without opening other blades first but these issues aside for the price it's hard to be too critical.

We didn't go for the fork and spoon ones as to me they always seem a poor idea hygiene wise and besides a spoon is easy enough to carry as it is.

Re: Aldi buys
The Knife/Fork/Spoon set we got years ago for our kids for camps are individual metal ones in a pouch I think it came with a corkscrew, but we removed that. As long as the stuff's clean when you put it back in the pouch, it should be OK hygiene-wise and you can wash it out when you get home for next time, but I quite often just put the cutlery in a feezer bag. Every gram counts when they're carrying everything themselves. Experimented with plastic, disposable stuff, but they're just not up to the job and the metal camp stuff is lighter than our ordinary cutlery (which I wouldn't want them to take anyway). I wouldn't use something for food that you couldn't get really clean, but then I'm a Mum and paranoid that waygrenfell wrote:Other half picked up the penknife or multi-functional knife as they call it which for £1.99 is worth a punt.
