fishing sets?

Post by J23 »

Hi guys. I am wondering about sets of hooks from EDC and BOBs - It's been probably over 20 years since I've been fishing last time, but I remember how important fishing equipment was.
I see those fancy EDC with lots of hooks for fishing next to rambo 50p Chineese compass and cheap small knife that can't cut anything ;-)- have any of you actually try if it works in practice? (the hooks) I remember with bad fishing rod (bamboo one with cheap cheezy reel) it was hard to throw hook away from you and once it is close to you fish won't get it as water is too shallow and you are seen - so what is the point of the hooks? any advice how to use it to catch anything?

Not in pictures. None will share unusual ways of fishing on this forum as it is "against the law" in this country.

You can share pictures and How-To's as long as you don't try to use the techniques (setting for practice is not using)

Exactly the same goes for traps

The problem I have is that while several of us have handlines and other banned fishing gear, there is no way we can practice using the gear without breaking the law. And these are skills that you need to learn before you have to use them.

So, bearing in mind that its all just theory ..... What methods can you share ?

I was sarcastic. Remembered post on this forum about a tent in the wood and arguing on 10+ pages about legal side of that.

I keep enough gear in my BOB for Hobo fishing Ray Mears style.

I have a plastic pot with a mix of hooks lures and floats with line around the pot. Got quite a lot of the kit from 99p stores selection.

In addition to its direct purpose - catching fish, fishing gear set can be used for catching crabs, birds, frogs, lizards, snakes, hedgehogs.

When we were kids we used to catch fish with forks.
There is no even need for the rod to catch fish.
I would expect that kind of post from "pepsi generation" not from someone who have been fishing last time 20 years ago.
There is no need to spend 100s of pounds on fishing gear to have fish on your table.

there are some more illegal ways I know but never practised and I don't like fresh water fish, prefer sea fish

net - I've seen how it works years ago, they have to be set in areas away from people as you can be grassed or caught by police/land owner - you name it

potassium permanganate - mix it with bread throw into water. 15 minutes later fish are sleeping so you can take out those that are big enough, once fish touched it wakes up - never tried, have heared it years ago, not even sure if it's true

dynamite - imo it is stupid and killing unncecssary all living in blast area

electricity - same like above - kills or scares everything around - silly and unnecessary

catching fish with fork? only in supermarket
not so pepsi generation anyway. BTW I was fishing as teenager, you need patience for it which I did lack. Same as I used to hate going for mushrooms, berries and all that. I just had no patience even to gather 1 cup of raspberries ;-)
