If I may be so bold as to ask, what rough budget have you factored for any comms system you may be lead to consider ?

Here are a couple of forum searches (done from google which I find is much better than the internal search function) that will give you some interesting background reading: radio site:http://www.uk-preppers.co.uk/forum and baofeng site:http://www.uk-preppers.co.uk/forum.

Hi PatrickM,

You will need the CB radio, a 12 volt power supply or Battery, some coaxial cable 50omhs (rG58 or 213better) suitable plugs to terminate the coax and a aerial. http://www.radios-uk.com/cb_guide.htm

Thanks too all the replys. Still trying to get my head round it, my first plan would be to install a cb radio in my room due to that all my gear will be there and I would want to stay there as long as possible. Would you recormend to havimg more then one cb radio so you would be able to listen to more or shell I stay with one and just let it scan untill I can pick a channel up. Sorry for all the questions. If I picked a channel up which there no talking going on , could I use that channel to let others know so we can speak? Thanks

One CB should be OK, If no one is talking that would indicate the channel is clear to use.

Just a thought, bearing in mind it's over 30 years since I last had my CB.

Are the 12 v batteries different to the ones I used in-line for my old home base set up ?

I do remember one of my batteries venting and the explosion sending the filler port lid flying across my room.

I suppose those modern sealed batteries might be best these days ??

Wulf I found this useful for deciding on which form of 12v battery to have and what the differences are.
