What would you include in an NCB 72 hour kit?

Post by TheFaceless »

I want to be prepared for the day that either geopolitical tensions eventually rise to the point that using WMD's against one another is of serious concern, or a wide spread terrorist attack using chemical or biological means occurs.

What would you have in a 72 hour kit? Obviously with NCB attacks you don't want to be out in the open very much if at all, but if you were near ground zero of an attack and wanted to get to a safe location, what would you include?

I've got the basic stuff, but I can't think of what I'd definitely need in an urban escape situation.

So far:

> Decent military grade rucksack to hold everything
> I'd include a GSR gas mask with multiple changes of filter.
> 72 hours of sealed ration packs and the means to cook them
> Water purifiers, such as those filter straws, and other means as well as a water canteen that could be used with the gsr
> Rope/parachord with hooks and such
> Maps of the area I reside in
> Means of making fire if necessary
> Home made signal bombs

But obviously I want to make the pack as useful as possible but as light as possible, carrying a heavy pack will slow you down and use more energy.

Anything you'd change add?

Keeping in mind this is only a 72 hour pack , Few things I would add

> sleeping bag
> temporary shelter, in case u get stuck outside (tent/bivi bag or even a tarp u could use with it paracord)
> a stove + something to cook in unless u plan on eating cold ration packs.
> a good knife
> first aid kit + pain killers and any meds you need + hand sanitizer
> some fresh water, filtration kit will do nothing for chemically contaminated water you find
> depending on the time of year _ jacket, hat, gloves, water proof trousers etc.
> chocolate or sweets (good morale booster)
> fresh socks & underwear
> decent waterproof torch + spare batteries or glow sticks

That's just a few things off the top of my head but to be honest you wouldn't want to be travelling anywhere in the middle of a chemical or biological attack unless you knew for sure exactly were it was and you had a clear route out to safety.

What do you plan on doing with these home made bombs ? Sounds illegal ...... or are they just smoke bombs.

Personally I wouldn't put anything in my pack that could possibly destroy all my other kit, if you must bring them then a small separate pack for them would be advisable.

conventionally delivered payloads will soon be a worry of the past http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... rough-fog/ it shot down 60mm mortars! give it a few years, maybe months ? and for the US and close allies conventional missile based attacks will be a worry of the past (until the next delivery system is developed)

so we're left with small yield nukes, dirty bombs, biological (in my opinion the most dangerous) and chemical (area of effect) so I'm not worrying about NBC! dirty bombs are about contamination over the area, not a nuclear explosion and me and mine don't venture near major cities that much. Small yield nukes again, unless multiple were detonated over different areas, I don't think it would affect me that much TBH

biological, some decent face masks and bloody good hygiene / infection control + avoiding public places will resolve that, but this is the one that could spread! so is by far the most dangerous. Same preps for a epi/pandemic.

chemical attacks are area of effect, they won't spread (maybe down wind) and again me and mine for the most part stay out of major cities so not really a worry.

prolly just potassium nitrate and sugar ? instructables has tons of "tutorials" on them, not really worth the hassle I think, maybe some Mg too for bright light?

At least 2 full NBC suits (mask alone is not much good in many cases) & unless things have progressed massively since my day a good supply of fullers earth.

Edit: Water bottle compatible with mask (I don't know the new system)
If at first you don't succeed, excessive force is usually the answer.
