Most batteries have a date on them for use. Most of my current Duracells are dated 2018..not sure how good they are past this but would imagine they would loose some oomph. Store them in a cool dry envoirment for best results

Why don't you pop over to the new members section and introduce yourself :)

Primary batteries store well. Alkaline and primary lithium batteries can be stored for 10 years with moderate loss capacity.

Remove battery from the equipment and store in a dry and cool place.

Avoid freezing. Batteries freeze more easily if in discharged state.

Same question I was going to ask today :)

I've started sorting through my supplies this week and found some of my batteries, in new sealed packs have started furring up and leaking. How do I prevent that?
They were stored in my garage, it may get cold in the winter, but not too hot in the summer...

Any advice on those or is it just a case it happens sometimes?

How do you store them, individual plastic packs in self-seal bags so they don't contaminate each other if they leak?

What about rechargeable batteries, do you regularly get the out and charge them all up, just in case? if so, how often?

Try not to let batteries get too cold, this can affect their capacity. This is why car batteries typically fail in the winter, when it's coldest and hardest on batteries. Same reason why if you leave cordless power tool batteries in an unheated garage etc, after a few days they lose their oomph.

I keep my batteries indoors at room temperature.
