Vertical Grow Pallets.

Post by Carefulnow »

I've been experimenting with vertical grow pallet ideas and this is what I have came up with. I initially found the idea on you tube but I didn't like the designs. I needed something which could have water poured in though the top which would then drip to the bottom. So i came up with this idea. Picture below.

The next part of the stage is finding a method where I can almost hook the pallet onto some supporting wooden battens which could be drilled onto masonry wall. The other option is make a free standing method.

I think instead of a thin pallet it may be worth making them thicker in width so they can stand on my raised beds which are around the perimeter of my backyard. I then could use some steel rods and zip ties to reinforce the pallets so they don't fall over. I also could put rope around my fence posts which are concrete. My neighbor won't mind since he'll probably ask me to do the same for him.

Anyway if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

I've seen a similar idea but one that uses milk jugs as the growing container. Pallets can be difficult to dismantle cleanly. Give it a go, it would be really interesting to hear how you get on.

I love this idea! The only qualm I'd have about it is if the masonry wall to be used belonged to the house - damp seepage would be horrendous, I fear ... if it was a proper brick garden wall, even chest height, thats a different matter :)

Re-reading what you've written, actually, I think you may have overcome that? Not sure ...

I've also seen people laying pallets down and filling them with soil/compost - rows are spaced more easily, and there's an automatic level of mulching from the planks!

Still loving the diagrams.
