"look what we found" products

Post by cumbrianish »

Has anyone tried these I was thinking of adding some to my ambient (not in the fridge or freezer) food preps. They seem to have at least 18 months shelf life.

Personally i find the portions a bit small. They taste good but at the price they are i would go for some asda value tin meals instead. Funny about the shelf life as all the ones i purchased had only six months!

Im sure Rik wont mind me posting a link to a comparison test he has done on Bushcraft UK its good :)

I recently purchased a box of eight Beef Casserole LWWF and I find the overall portion quite small, and only 30% meat in the pack. Although it was dang tasty!

In future, I'd get a tin of beef stew and a tin of potatoes from tescos and make my own uber-portion from scratch.

I've lost count of the number of times *I've* done that

I had a looksee, I agree with the other posters - getting the ingredients together yourself is better value, and if its something you rotate regularly, its got to be do-able financially. I have a plastic crate of ambient upstairs (flash flooding etc, these days!) and its mostly tinned - potatoes (I'm addicted to tinned potatoes  ) baked beans, peanut butter, jar of honey, packets of nuts, tinned fruit, dried fruit, that sort of thing, with paper plates and tin opener.

I tried the chilli con carne and the meat balls, they were not to my taste. so that was a fail.

If the OP has not tried army ration packs perhaps he should. You can pick them up for under a tenner and for that your getting @4000 calories.

This is one of the newer types
