Re: Just Tents
I have various tents from tarps to 1 man and upto 4 man, there have been others and I beleive there is still one we call "the palace" in the family.
right now I think for bugging out or bushcrafting type situations I am still not totaly happy, I love the polish lavvu, but my ultimate tent is still out there somewhere.
my criteria is simple, it must stand up on its own and not need pegging out to be stable. As I recon if you cannot put it up on my flat roof house roof or in a carpark, its only good for some situations.
I had one like this, it was a dome, with 3 poles and hexaginal, no porch, but because it was not square it gave you a space either side of two sleeping in it.
this was called a Highlander and made by Millets, it was borrowed many times by lots of people and was finaly stollen out of my car
There are some out there similar, but most have a porch that needs pegging out or similar.
The best candidates sofar are all made by coleman:
Weekender (small porch so not ideal, but you can stand up in the 6 man)
Phad
Tatra
instant tent (poles stay attached and you can stand up in it)
there are many others, but for the bug out senario these are my thoughts.
what do you think, what ere you looking for in a tent?

Re: Just Tents
I've got several tents, none of which i've ever been particularly happy with, do you do relationship counselling?!
At present, I have 2 of the 'quickpitch' pop up 2 man jobbies. Good on the waterproof rating, one for kit and bags, one for bodies!
Problem I find is once zipped there is sod all ventilation and on one occasion I woke up hyperventilating gasping for air! Also they are pretty big when packed in their round bags, but ideal in the back of the car, easy on the wallet and easily pitched.

My prepping consists of bugging out by bicycle so any comments are likely to be based on that scenario.
