Hi after two years working towards getting a BOL I am getting close.
One problem I am still trying to work out is secure storage for tools and supplies. So I am looking for ideas and maybe a friendly welder.
I thought initially of a tool safe hidden in a wood pile, this would cost about £150, half berried and bolted to a small concreate bloke.
Next idea a metal storage container that can be built on site, it would cost about £1500 but would be too visible.
Ideally I would use a bunker but have to keep cost down, I thought of using a very large underground water tank but this would not be secure, cost £1000 + digger hire.
Could you help with costing up a metal bunker 9hx7wx7l ft. using square section steel that could be bolted together on site, it would need a hatch with padlock shroud.
Any other ideas?
Thank you
secure BOL storage
Re: secure BOL storage
So would I be right in thinking that your BOL is in the middle of the woods (or similar) and has no permanent structures in place?
Re: secure BOL storage
ive seen small septic tanks in the builder yard that should be upto the job .depending on what you want to store you could even fit your self in there is needs be
YES i walked away mid sentence , you were boring me to death and my survival instincts kick in .
Re: secure BOL storage
Hi the location is a field I intend to apply for planning permission for a water tank, shed and Polly tunnel as well as permissive use for a business, 28 days camping, clay pidgin shoot and vermin control. A caravan or cabin would not be secure and I prefer something not visible (if you can’t see it you don’t want it).
Planning permission will be a real problem so whatever I go for has to be removable and as cheap as poss. If dog walkers and locals cannot see it that would be a real help.

Re: secure BOL storage
Burying a tank or large container underground is not actually as straightforward as it seems.
Most tanks have to be designed and either anchored down or backfilled with specific materials to prevent them literally jumping out of the ground - think about trying to hold an empty 2litre bottle (with the lid on) under the water in a bath - you basically can't do it unless hold it down. The applies to any other tanks or containers that you bury in the ground.
It may seem OK at first, but as soon as the ground water rises, so will your tank, unless you have correctly designed it and anchored it in position.
As for Planning Permission, well technically you do not need planning permission if it's under ground.....

Re: secure BOL storage
If you are having a shed why not just get a shipping container, short of using power tools if you build lock boxes around the padlocks then there is no easy way into them, you can even get them ready fitted out with a mess room. Some fast growing bushes and trees would soon have it screened from view.
If guns are outlawed then only the outlaws will have guns....
Re: secure BOL storage
food for thought, the prob with underground tank was handy. Ive been looking at security cabin/office a bit rich for me so will prob go for flat pack security shed (£1.5k), it would be easier to remove if needed.

You could get a standard container dropped for that much assuming you have decent access

Re: secure BOL storage
If access across your field is a problem, then this firm do portable containers in a flat pack form with additional locking options to make them more secure. http://www.shippingcontainersuk.com/bra ... arange.php

re;planning
Id check with your local planning website/office but here in NI you can build a building no bigger than 6metres by 5metres
without planning permission and without need for building control as long as its not a dwelling and at least as far away from neighbouring
land by the height of the building.
Ive put in footing/subfloor already for 6x5 building and its a pretty decent overall size
access is everything and will cost you if you need to hire a digger, scrape away topsoil and lay down stones
hard to build low key these days due to nosey neighbours!
