Prepper Awareness

Post by ojiu0u4 »

Hey,

I could not figure out which forum to post this in. I am wondering what a graph of total number of members of this site against time would look like. Anonymizing the figures by treating whatever the current number is as a value of 1 as at today's value. This would obfuscate the underlying data values. We could plot total members against time in each month and total active members in each month against time. It might provide an interesting insight to peaks and troughs of public awareness at different points in time of people joining against the events going on at the time with people becoming more engaged with prepping for a the first time and existing preppers increasing activity against global events in that month.

Obviously the site owner / admin is the only one with access to the data and may view it is as confidential or the above obstfication would be enough... or simply do the analysis privately and share any interesting standout peaks, trends or key points in time which got us all prepper focused.....

Just a thought prompted by all the new members recently.....

Well, if you click on the "members" button and then click on "joined" you can see who signed up arranged chronologically.

Thats how I know we're had five people* join today and (I think I counted) fifteen so far this year.

As mods we often predict an increase in new members especially when a new episode of Doomsday Preppers is being shown  and usually we're right.....

Interesting idea but I think as long as people have shown some interest does data really matter?

As to it matering, well no not really, I thought it may possibly reveal an interesting trend, or not, around events reported in the media over the last few years. Such as uk nurse with ebola in last week, or oil price slide, Scottish referendum etc etc, to see if there were any spikes and if these might be relatable to events. Another would be if there was any general background increasing trend awareness / interest out there. So possibly of general interest, which may in turn have practical outputs or may not, but in terms of matter.... I'd probably not, difficult to say unless the analysis is done, will it confirm what we suspect... a small spike around media events (although there are so many it seems the sky might fall every week) and baseline awareness is low rate but slightly trending up, that is just a guess and I have no idea if the data would corolate with that.

One practical impact could inform about a sudden increase in prepping if there is a slowly progressive spiral down over months or years or a quicker deterioration over weeks or months. I know ebay and Amazon did very well on Ebola ppe back in Oct / Nov. That might mean there would be an increase in newbie peppers as it spirals and how we want to help each other and build community....

So idk, if it matters or is relevant or the data would appear random and suggest little expectation of prepping increase before shtf...

As preppingsu said, the moderators know what is happening. We only have to watch the news. And as preppingsu said, when they put 'Doomsday Preppers' on, we know it is gonna kick off. There's no need for anyone to make hard work out of an easy job! :D

Guilty as charged M'lud . I hadn't thought about or knew about prepping until I had seen a couple of episodes and was only then I realised that being simply sensible had a different and in all honesty probably a better name ...... preppers or sensiblers? :D
