When mice attack.........

Last year we spent time harvesting, drying and storing our seeds

And then I bought more seeds, just in case............

This year we planted a fair number of them and they germinated happily in the greenhouse

Only to be eaten by mice

So my dining room now looks like the greenhouse should - full of replanted trays of seeds

Just a word of warning to everyone, it all may look marvellous, but it only takes one night for the varmits to find the feast and tell all their cousins to come and join in

Thanks featherstick. It's fair to say we were crushed - the only upside is that we had plenty of seeds stored and could immediately replant

No matter how clean and tidy you think you are, vermin are never far away. Poison, poison and poison. I have animals so I have to have a vermin control regime in place, but it applies to my greenhouses too. I always keep a bait point down in each of them, to prevent mouse damage to my plants.

I thought my shipping container was so sealed up it was mouse-free. Oh no, the little sods found a way in and last weekend I found a trail of poop. I hate to use the poison for fear of it spreading to the creatures that naturally prey upon mice but I think it's got to be done for the times I'm away from the container. When I'm up there, I'll switch to humane traps that I can check regularly.

I also have a rat problem under the container, fortunately the rat's have a problem getting into my container and an even bigger problem outrunning 22LR rounds.

Standard anti coagulant poisons work on a cumalitive effect. It takes a good few doses for the rodent to bleed/drown to death. So an animal picks up a carcase, it is unlikely it will be lethal to the scavenger. Do not be afraid of chemicals, rodents carry disease. They can ruin everything you have worked to stash.

I have no problem poisoning the buggers.

We have had problems with nice in the garage and kitchen (ajoining walls) and rats in the compost. Lots of poison used. Problem solved.

Our two elderly moggies (mogsplaesh?) used to sunbathe in the greenhouse which kept vermin under control, I guess we just got sloppy, our own fault really. But nevertheless disappointing
