Found an interesting site about making insulin. Doesn't sound easy but I guess if your prepping then a diabetic might think of trying it. Also interesting at the responses someone mentioned mulberries might lower blood sugar.

Re: Home made insulin
Wow - very tricky but if the S has really hit the F then, funnily enough, you may find the equipment to do this in a dairy. Sulphuric acid and centrifuges are used in fat determination by the Gerber method. Just a thought

This website looks really interesting. I've bookmarked for more in depth reading/printing.. Thanks for this

Re: Home made insulin
Being a lab technician, I can safely say this procedure could only be done with VERY specific equipment. You would also need the precise recipe and the resulting extract should be at exactly the right pH and concentrations. One serious problem using whole animal pancreas is that most of the pancreas is not used for insulin - just the Islets of Langerhans which would have to be isolated. Another thing is that your immune system would most likely raise an immune response towards the animal proteins. Over time, this response would increase and eventually kill you. Unless you had access to a very good biochemist and a lab- um, must admit I'm not convinced. I'll be happy to hunt down a more specific recipe, though.
Re: Home made insulin
The advice to use metformin is not helpful.
There are two types of diabetes.
Type 1 used to be called juvenile until they found out it can occur at any age. Only insulin works as they have total failure of insulin production. You can try and keep them going with a zero card high fat and protein diet but it doesn't work for long. (10 - 20% of total diabetic population)
Type 2 or adult diabetes is the one linked to being overweight but not all are. They are the ones who get diet only or tablets. BUT over time a lot need insulin to get good control. Even then it is now common to leave them on metformin when on insulin. If taken off insulin some would have total insulin failure and suffer like a type 1 but most would simply have bad control. In a crisis starvation alone might well "control" their diabetes for them.
The Americans use insulin far more in Type 2 than Europe does so this idea of insulin users going back to tabs is more likely. The advice in the latter part of the articles about diet is good.
Best wishes

(Guess what - have type 2 diabetes so have really looked at this!)

Can I just say, I'm really grateful that people will bring this to our attention like the OP did, and that scientists and people with experience are prepared to comment on it. It's very helpful.
