Rolling Blackouts.

Post by Dicon »

Now we have a period of cuts ahead and probable protest strikes, there may be power outages. I am stocking up on paraffin and candles. I have two Alladin lamps, and they also warm as well as light. I still await the pocket stainless steel camping stove. Next outlay is water butts ( 2) for the back garden.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll take a wee look at the gas heater, that sounds interesting, more butane is always handy too. :D

Where have you seen about possible black outs?

Sat here musing over the idea since back when power generation was a national concern most of the silver wear has been privatised and sold off.. Coal is now imported ships are private dock workers are self employed, HGV drivers owner drivers, generation plants privately owned only thing I'm unsure of is the national grid itself

Britain's energy infrastructure is woefully outdated and creaking. Storage, delivery, maintenance and surge capacity are all low. The fragmented and non-transparent nature of the sector means it is difficult to get an overview of what needs to be done, or to put in place the right structure to get it done. We can absolutely expect more blackouts in the near future.

Here's a good analysis:

I understand the infrastructure is archaic I was asking more about the potential industrial action the op refers to in the opening post....

Got onto the subject about overhead lines today and a friend of a friend is a lines man...

They were told point a to point b needs new isolators on the poles...... and got to the job with a man from the firm passing a pile of new imported ones to the gang........

The gang boss asked wtf are these as they are err poo......

That's what your putting on...

2years later they were back unto problems and since they had been using the imported ones the uk maker had stopped making them as there was no demand....... short term Cost over quality / lifespan ........

Im not to worried about blackouts, im not home during the day and when I am the only electrical item I use is a light switch. I have a torch and a large supply of batteries so im not worried, most I have to worry about is a few vandals.

I'm well stocked with fuel and lighting, as I'd been expecting blackouts/brownouts by now.

The main reason I made my Solar Generator was to insulate myself from any Tom foolery that may happen with the power supply.

If its the same one I have it puts out a Kilowatt of heat and burns a tin of gas every 3-4 hours. I use it to heat my man cave when I run out of calor gas for the BIG HEATER. I also have a carbon monoxide alarm.
