Hi, from the rainy NW.

Post by BlinkingCory »

Hi everyone.
I've been browsing the forums for a while, thought it time I registered and wrote a few words.
I like to think that I'm a regular bloke, I enjoy watching the football and cricket, fond of a beer or three and try to look on the bright side of things. I'm not prepping or anticipating an end of society type of situation, but rather, we're prepping for extended power outage, freakishly bad weather and the extreme situation of having to leave our home for whatever reason.
Now that our son has flown the roost, it's just myself and the good lady. A couple of years ago we bought a motorhome. Nothing fancy, but it's reliable and it's something we use a lot. We live in the NW with the Lake District pretty much on our doorstep. We didn't buy the motorhome as an intended bugout vehicle, but even without planning it, it's become that of sorts. As it's always stocked with pretty much anything we'd need, it's great being able to take spur of the moment weekend trips, as well as the extended jaunts. So, I'll be looking around the forum for tips and tricks as to how to improve the stocking we have in our motorhome. Hints for equipments and whatnot.
Thanks guys and gals.
Now then, back to the football on the telly!

Hi mate and welcome, you sound like a man after my own heart, apart from the cricket of course, being a Jock we don't really dabble with that 'kind of thing' (althought there's a school of thought that we don't really dabble with the football any more either   ). I'm 'well jel' of the motor home, I've fancied one for ages but I don't drive so reliant on Her Maj and she's not quite so keen.

There's loads of topics on here, I've learned a lot and become aware of things I hadn't considered, some I've went "nah, not for me" others I've had a wee light bulb moment. Welcome again.

Cheers Deeps.
Motorhome is the best thing we ever bought, keeping it fully 'prepped' all the time, means we can just jump in and a few hours later we're either BBQing or campstoving somewhere.
We used to live in sunny Scotland in the past, I'm an ex-submariner you see (you? the username?) and lived in Helensburgh. Used to go see Dumbarton play every Saturday I could. Or rather, Dumbarton Nil as I called them.
Next year we are taking the wheels to Spain/Portugal for a month, and this place seems like a goldmine of experience and knowledge which I hope to delve into in preparation.
From my browsing here, I'm loving the sense of community already, we're all here for the same reason, prepping for something and I love the helping nature of everything I've read.

Bugger! Just wrote a lengthy response and it got lost in the internetweb somewhere.
Cheers Deeps.
In summary, what I wrote (and lost)
Motorhome is the best thing we ever bought. Kept fully stocked all the time, it's our instant hotel. Taking it to Spain and Portugal next year for a month so hopefully will grab loads of useful info from the knowledgeable folk here, on how to prep the wheels for all eventualities.
We used to live in sunny Scotland. Helensburgh. Ex-Submariner. You? The username you see.
Loving the vibe here. Everyone here for the same reason. Helping, advising, learning. I'm not worried about asteroids or zombies or nuke attack, but practical things we can have a control over.
Take care

Hi mate, yeah, I'm a fellow (ex) sun dodger, I can guess where you're based about in the NW, I took boat 2 out if that means anything to you. I was a Faslane rating most of the time, S boats until nearly the bitter end. I went to the odd Dumbarton game but I'm an East coast rating so usually did the transit across the Stirling straights. We'll need to swing the lamp some time, Jansman is an ex matelot too.

Prepping Submariners would probably be quite a niche forum I suspect.
