are you strong/fit enough

Post by ward81 »

hi all im very new to this site so hello from me. the reason im starting this thread is because i am a fellow prepper and am also into urban survival and with that comes not only mental and material issues but also physical issues. can you walk for hours with a day sa k on or maybe a get home bag? climb over walls, lay low to have to jump up and make a run for safety? again, the reason im posting is because im a qualified personal trainer (and also ex boxer) and im looking to start a preppers/urban survival strength and fitness class and personal training. im looking to start running it and doing the personal training for those who want it in nottingham...would anyone be intrested?

Hello and welcome. I have approved your intro, but I must advise you that the best way to garner interest for your venture will be to become a consistent and regular part of our community. Once there is trust there, then you may find that people are more supportive.

Agree need to be fit ,but apart from walks am getting older(but not to old) .As my dad used to say son when you get older need to do more thinking than dancing. But wish you good luck and if the SHTF you will have a far better chance than me . ;)

Agreed, you are what you are, many here are middle aged and beyond, not in perfect health, and certainly not up to running around like Bear Grylls, and yet not doomed in a crisis either, what we have to remember is that even the fittest (and sometimes especially for they feel and act invulnerable) will fall on their arse, in the very type of SHTF scenario such fitness urban survival implies, the odds are not good without a hospital to get to. ;)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Bang on!!!! Ha ha  My own dad used to say something similar. " Son, if you are sweating, you're doing it wrong".

I agree that fitness is important. However, when you are young you think you are immortal. When you realise you are very middle aged and the bones are creaking you change your thinking.

Agreed.

I am "in my prime" as they say, fit and healthy (as far as I know). With that being said I know where my limits and boundaries are and all those otherwise fit and healthy people out there need to keep that in mind when planning to take on your neighbourhood like Rambo when the SHTF.

As I have said on a previous thread we are not stunt actors or movie stars, leave the acrobatics for a professional. Fair play if you are athletic and I could be wrong and you are a stunt actor - I stand corrected if that's the case - but my point is the quickest way you will get yourself killed in a SHTF scenario will be unnecessary risk taking and going beyond what you are capable of. Agreed being fit will help, but no one is invincible.

Welcome to the forum. I wish you success in your business.

Fit..... Nowhere as near fit as I think I might need to be ;) . Like a lot of middle aged  preppers I know my limits. I have planned to Hunker down rather than go trekking off, however if trekking is whats needed then a few miles a day with my necessary equipment is probably achievable. I will do myself nor my dependants any favours if I knacker myself in the first couple of hours. I can only do my best, but that cannot be measured against a young man who is a fitness addict. Good luck with your venture and if you happen to see me lagging behind, leave me

I would have thought that the main thing would be to know where you're headed before you start trekking  And that requires sitting on yer ass planning. And the thing about Rambo was that he did everything wrong and failed ...

My body has many issues (injuries and general ill health) but I do some workout at the outdoor gym and I am also planning on seeing an osteopath about the shoulder, back and neck soon to help kick my stretching routine into gear. Got myself a basic package with simplyhealth.co.uk so that I can make the most use of the money that I spend on things like specs and my teeth as well as a few other things and might even get more out than I put in if I claim on everything.
