I've been looking through and haven't seen any posts on maps? just a quick heads up, you can either go to the OS website and buy loads of good maps, some custom to your needs

OS: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/

If your looking for basic OS maps then check out:

http://www.dash4it.co.uk/store/go/categ ... s-guides/1

They've got the basic OS maps at a discount!!

Ah yes, I've been using OS maps for over 20 years in the mountains, and they've always served me well.

I'm a big supporter of paper maps. In a situation, you CANNOT rely on iPhones/Google maps/SatNav phones etc. Once they switch off the mobile networks (as they did on 7/7) that's it - your fancy satnav phone ain't gonna work...

Learn how to use a compass and map, and they won't fail you.

Definitely AWR. Books and paper maps and knowledge inside your head is the way to go.

I have an E copy of every OS map of the UK, 1:50,000 and 1:25,000, I just print what I need for any particular activity

The bigger the scale the better in my world
I carry my maps nearly all the time either in the car or my pocket
It’s also really good to learn micro navigation

I use the "Quo" mapping software and just print out what bit I want, all based on OS maps.

Didn't someone on here a while back post a link to free online OS maps (not the offficial OS site) or was that on the old site ?
