Fashion Advice

Post by whenfires »

Fashion advice on a prepping forum?

Yes, kind of. It does have a prepping angle though :D

Basically I have decided to ditch my cheap day-to-day mountain warehouse rucksack for something a bit more EDC-ready. I have pretty much decided on a 5.11 Covrt 18, although I'm open to alternatives if you have any recommendations.

I can't decide on the colour though  so I thought I'd throw it out here and get some opinions. Here are my options and I'm currently torn between 'Mantis' and 'Ice'

If i were you, mantis. Purely because the green matches the environment.

That bag looks solid, have fun!

I like that a lot.

at the moment I'm dragging round either a rush 5.11 12 in black which looks like a standard commuter backpack when I'm in the city (got my laptop and EDC in it) and the 5.11 24 in olive for the countryside where i live for weekends/in the back of the car, same thing EDC and a few more bits n bobs.

Both are bulletproof and very sturdy, will last for ages but a mistake i made is that for people with the keener will note the molle loops all over them and may think "i want that"- your idea is much more covert - I found the best thing to do was go for it and stop deliberating - if all else fails and provided its in good order the ebay resale value will probably be at least 70% of list.

Sometimes you have to buy and use these things to see if you get on with them.

good luck

My EDC is a Kombat UK mini molle in black. Ok, it's not very 'grey man' but it's small, easy to carry and has loads of pockets to place my EDC equipment and supplies. I don't need a lot of gear in it anyway as its just an EDC bag, so colour wasn't an issue for me albeit I didn't want a camouflaged EDC.

For city use i'd go for Asphalt, its a colour combo that is very similar to a mid range laptop backpack that i see at work all the time, that and i think its a good city colour. i like thew folage one most though.

Yes I'd probably go with a grey as well, it not only blends in in town but a mid grey blends in quite well in the countyside too.

I ended up going with the Mantis green. It looks like a normal daypack-type rucksack and is not unlike the Mountain Warehouse one it is replacing.

I got myself a small backpack. Its mainly for cycling so it looks silly and has almost day glow but on it.... anything that looks vaguely normal :)
