What flavour are you ?
What flavour are you ?
I saw this and thought I'd post it, by the looks of it if you're a beer drinking salad dodger you're pooped with the midgies.
Maybe explains why I've got tastier as I've gotten older.

Re: What flavour are you ?
Interesting, I seem to be a magnet for bloody horse flies, I've been out with 3 mates and I'm covered in the things and my mates haven't been bothered at all (and I'm not a big beer drinker) add in I'm mildly allergic to the bites and I hate the little beggars, strangly other insects don't seem to be much bothered. And that was with mossie rep strong enough to melt the compass or rifle stocks. (wonder what it's done to me?)

The favourite flavour for any biting insect in the vicinity, that's what flavour
I do find Avon Skin So Soft works a treat though.

I've used this in the past and always rated it. Last year I was using it but I was still getting bit, now whether it was because it was a couple of years old and the active ingredient had weakened I don't know but it wasn't cutting it.Brambles wrote:Re: What flavour are you ?

The lesser spotted grizzly mosquito, found on military training areas world wide (esp BATUS) are capable of defending air space from anything up to the size of a Spectre gunship.
However, the little buggers don't like garlic tablets (neither do my insides, but needs must) and Life Systems mosquito repellent.

We got issued some stuff that was about 35% deet that seemed to work although it was quite greasy. (I've still got some so I'll dig it out and let you know what its called, maybe not held anymore but give it a go if you can get it through stores).Captain Darling wrote:The lesser spotted grizzly mosquito, found on military training areas world wide (esp BATUS) are capable of defending air space from anything up to the size of a Spectre gunship.

I'm a big fan of garlic, eat loads of it and it doesn't seem to help. I've started to doubt it but if you're getting it issued then there must be something in it. Hey ho, we persevere.

Re: What flavour are you ?
Was it in the little tubes like toothpaste samples? Ultrathon or something? Theres that and some other stuff in a plain green tube I've never even bothered with it.We can still get it, it's just not that good I've found, the buggers in BATUS have almost developed a taste for it.
There was some stuff in the Can Ex that was a non DEET but garlic and onion scented but that was a real toe curler.

That sounds like the stuff (the Ultrathon), it seemed to keep the Faslane midgies away but if its not worked for you or you've got something better then fair enough. I had to google BATUS to find out where it is so no idea what works over there, I've not been to Canada but I've done the States and some of the beasties are pretty impressive right enough, I hope you managed to get a bit of time off to enjoy some of the larger 'wild life'.Captain Darling wrote:Was it in the little tubes like toothpaste samples? Re: What flavour are you ?
I believe you need a pretty high concentration of DEET in a repellant, Jungle Formula that you can buy over here has 50% I've used that too and that really works. Have to say I use the belt and braces approach, try the Skin so Soft first and if that doesn't work blast the bu$$ers with Jungle Formula.Captain Darling wrote:Was it in the little tubes like toothpaste samples?
