I'm renewing my acquaintance with online maps, as the circumstances of both me and my extended family have changed quite a bit in the last six months. Found this handy thing:

You literally input a starting point, specify a few other things like distance, time, mode of transport, and it shows you how far you can get. You don't have to register either, and there's lots of other interesting tools there. I thought it could be really handy if you had to zoom off because of something threatening locally, unlikely as that might be. I was actually looking for an elevation finder, and it has that too.

What a great idea and I'm sure it will come in useful. I'm planning to do some walking bank holiday weekend when I go away so might have a look at this.
