Lone prepper

Post by Kaibosh »

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there prepping alone? Seems a dauntless task sometimes!

Welcome to the forum Kaibosh, I basically prep alone, I've got Her Royal Grumpiness who's tolerant rather than onboard but that's about it. I've a mate who has a good idea that I've got some stockpiles for a 'rainy day' but we don't have any plans or anything. I'm not part of a vast prepper network or anything like that, nor a wish to be really.

If you're looking to a social aspect to prepping then I would guess that a group would be for you or at least some of the meets that seem to happen (Youtube might be a place to look). This place is handy for information and asking questions too, I see prepping as a personal thing, what works for me might not work for you although its always good to get inspiration from others. Have a good look around here, any questions and you're bound to get answers.

What kind of things are you prepping for ?

Im pretty much alone. Sometimes thats good as it can save you from "group think" and you can make your own intelligent decisions. It doesn't matter. Just do the best you can.

It really comes down to why you're prepping I guess mate, while I'd be a bugger inner as opposed to a bugger outer myself by choice, I'm doubtful that the need for either occasion is too likely. Floods or the lecky going off are more likely scenarios to have preps for. Having all your insurance details to hand (or on a flash drive) ain't very rock 'n roll but probably more useful than a mahoosive knife, you can do both of course and its unlikely you'll get things exactly as you want them, unless you've got a bank balance to match the knife.

As for being on your own, assuming you're 'bugging in', then there's a good chance your neighbours will be too, if you can help each other and work together its going to make all your lives easier if things do go badly wrong for whatever reason. While I've got about 3 months worth of scran for me and the missus, its probably more workable to look at that as (say) a 180 days worth, that might break down as 10 days worth for 18 people or 5 days for 36 or whatever, if your neighbours know you're holding out on them they might not be happy, all things to consider when you're sorting out your own set up.

Ok, so I guess I'm prepping for pretty much every scenario then. I think I got enough stash for a few months or so. The neighbours will probably appreciate a little help as long as they don't find out I got more than they have! Yep, I guess as long as I keep my head down and can defend my own 'castle' I may survive the onslaught!

Just my take of course, others might well see it differently. Have you been prepping for long then mate, if you've got a couple of months worth then you've probably already thought about what works for you.
