EDC bag

Post by sion_1990 »

Hey Guys,
Just thought I'd share my EDC Carry bag and hopefully get some feedback

This is the bag I use every day, Tigernu Computer Bag, purchased from Amazon. Quite Rugged and well padded, it has hidden pouches in the back for valuables, the laptop compartment is hidden under the bag straps, and all the zips are lockable, perfect against pick-pockets and the like... The bags almost always with me, or at least in my car if taking the bag somewhere isn't practical.

Image

and this is the Kit I carry on a daily basis.

Left to Right:
Plasters/Bandages/antiseptic in a grab pouch, Misc Painkillers and anti-allergy tablets, Spare Underwear, Stanley 12-1 multitool, LED Pen-light, Plastic Pouch with Passport/Driving License/Small amount of cash, Stanley blade (not legal carry, and probably redundant since I bought the multitool), pouch with various lockpicks, (I'm a hobby-lockpicker, often carry around spare locks and training locks with it) 2 Milspec emergency glowsticks, 1.5m bootlace, tin containing lighter, alcohol free cleaning wipes, spare stanley blades, condoms, usb stick with favourite pics/important documents, foil blanket and more allergy meds.

These are all things that have ended up in my bag that I've wished I've had with me at one time or another during a fairly normal day. It all fits in the front section of my bag with easy access, leaving me plenty of room for a warm jumper, my lunch for work, water, work documents, laptop and laptop charger in the other two compartments. (or anything else I need if it's not a work day)

I'm gonna add superglue and duct-tape in at some point too.

so, what do you guys reckon, overkill? not enough? Mrs thinks I'm mental (till she needs a plaster, or her zip fixed...)

This lot...... And some spare socks.

Add either sugar-free gum or a toothbrush and you're set for an unplanned night away.
Also either TP or a pack of tissues.... Many more uses then just wiping stuff

A spoon maybe ?

A woman's handbag comes to mind, I am sorry I'm not sexist in any way shape or form, but the handbag along with the phrase "everything bar the kitchen sink" comes to mind whenever we do the EDC/BOB/GHB thing, when what do I need? Turns to what might I need? The sky can be the limit, going right back to my working life and the ever increasing amount of tools I would want to have on board, then downsizing, then having targeted tool boxes for the widely varied work, life teaches us that this sort of thing is a fluid situation for the most part driven by individual experience.
I have a belt bag and carry a few items about my person, a few of those like the little torch, penknife, lighter, keys, I am virtually never without, they are in the trouser pockets or on the belt, when I'm not wearing them they are hung beside the bed or on the back of the bathroom door, the belt bag goes on when I go out, then there are rucksacks, one of which I even take to bed with me  this is because it is not only preppy but it has a few things precious to me, it has a clip seal box full of meds and various creams, I don't take it shopping, some of the contents are sharp and pointy, fair game for a day at the club though.

What you have in yours looks fine obviously for what you do

That's what I mean by driven by experience, only someone who has been caught out by very cold and/or wet feet would become so obsessed with spare socks, the condom can be living in hope ;) but the socks are " I'm not getting caught like that again!"
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

It sounds like you have a good system going for yourself. These bags are of course personal preference when it comes to load out. I recently switched to an edc organiser and its so easy to get carried away it nearly turned into a full out Bob but I managed to maintain control and its working out fine.I think the main thing is to try and keep it realistic.

Cheers Guys,
I usually carry at least a 1l bottle of water with me every day anyway and keep it topped up through the day, and another 2 litres in the car. I could probably do with some steritabs or something because I drink a lot, if for some reason there was no tap-water available getting hold of some would be a priority...

guess I might need some socks?

I went for that light pen over a torch as it throws enough light to walk around in the dark, is magnetic (i stick it to the roof in my shed when I'm out there working!) and battery life is fantastic, 3xAAA batteries, and it will last 3 days continuous use in the cold, longer in the warmer weather (more than once I've forgotten it in the shed and gone back out a few days later to find it still working  )

I hadn't thought about gloves, will chuck some in this evening (and probably a hat too!)

wish my Mrs's handbag had anywhere near as much useful stuff in, as far as I can tell its full of empty sweet wrappers and receipts

Why am I obsessed with spare socks . I have a fetish . New socks. If I won the lottery it would be a new pair everyday . No twice I've been caught out ( yes I know ) Once in the army in a very cold Bosnia. And once on a building site in Dundee ( dundee is more dangerous than bosnia) where my boot came off in deep mud and my sock got it . It was a very miserable day as it happened before tea 10 o'clock ish .

I usually carry a bandana and large food bags not ideal but you could line your boot with the bag and then the bandana it would be better than a wet muddy sock clean dry material next to your feet with a waterproof exterior. Just an idea maybe.

Can I just say that the lockpicks might get you into trouble if stopped by police, not intending to be a damper but personally I wouldn't risk carrying them.
