If not already known about check these out,
I strongly recommend these Swedish Army Green Fatigue Caps (available through well known auction site)
Ive bought 2 as they can be bought for around £2.99 new and unissued if you shop around, it seems the Sweds have found a load of army surplus that's from the 60's, all of it unissued......
The hat can be worn with the ears flaps down mine also has a forehead flap that folds down and with a scarf across your face only your eyes are exposed to the cold, they are double lined, the green color is not a Drab Green but will fade with time....
for the build quality and the price this is a 10 out of 10 piece of kit,

Re: Winter "bug out" hat Recommendation
That is a pretty sweet hat, most of the buscrafty hats are either overtly arctic or jungle oriented and I have ordered one, it'll be a hard sell to get me out of my Barbour flat cap though, I am something of a Luddite, and these modern hats that are made of things other than tweed are something of a mystery to me!
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

Cheers Fella, in the world of pushing and shoving I tend to fall back on vintage MOD kit, anything Dutch is safe as you like, the british kit post 1975 is shoddy, and as for the boot their wearing now days?????Jamesey1981 wrote:That is a pretty sweet hat, most of the buscrafty hats are either overtly arctic or jungle oriented and I have had to order one, it'll be a hard sell to get me out of my Barbour flat cap though, I am something of a Luddite, and these modern hats that are made of things other than tweed are something of a mystery to me, unless I'm carp fishing, (my other fishing hats have mushrooms growing on them) in which case anything that an astronaut once had pants made out of is fine by me....
I full recommend Norgie shirts and german army moleskins, I happened upon these by chance as I wanted something better than the Flectarn fatigue hat & the Russian fake fur hat that Ive worn for 20 odd years, this ticked all the boxes but I wasn't sure about at first but I guess its just the change from what I was use to, and as before £2.99 inc of postage? wow bargain or what! One other item I recommended is the British cold weather quilted liner, can be worn on its own or under jackets etc,
please do pass on any other knowledge of items you've field tested and recommend,

I'm a big fan of the new boots, I've had a couple of different types recently and I'm wearing the Haix ones at the moment, they're comfy and light. No breaking in process like the old ones. I'm in them about 4 hours a day and they're bearing up well.Citizen H wrote:Cheers Fella, in the world of pushing and shoving I tend to fall back on vintage MOD kit, anything Dutch is safe as you like, the british kit post 1975 is shoddy, and as for the boot their wearing now days?????Jamesey1981 wrote:That is a pretty sweet hat, most of the buscrafty hats are either overtly arctic or jungle oriented and I have had to order one, it'll be a hard sell to get me out of my Barbour flat cap though, I am something of a Luddite, and these modern hats that are made of things other than tweed are something of a mystery to me, unless I'm carp fishing, (my other fishing hats have mushrooms growing on them) in which case anything that an astronaut once had pants made out of is fine by me....

Re: Winter "bug out" hat Recommendation
ive got the brown bates boots, a mate who's still "in" got them for me - so far they're good, pretty comfy and wearing well, he tells me they're the new tabbing boots and are more like trainers than boots, minimal breaking in and pretty easy to look after too.
he's corps rather than infantry so his opinion of boots could be different to the infantry grunt though. For me they're doing well, comfort is my main factor when choosing anything if i have to wear or carry it.
Certainly better than the assault boots we used to wear back in about 2000....
