Nail guns. For short range pest control.
Nail guns. For short range pest control.
Pros and cons of battery (cordless) nail guns? For short range pest control obviously. I'm thinking rechargeable batteries so they can be recharged off grid with solar power. Trouble with most air guns and crossbows is that they're one shot and clumsy in confined places, for instance if you see a rat trying to get through your front door.

Electric nail guns aren't all that, most decent ones will run off a compressor, and the only cordless ones worth having also need flammable gas cartridges.
They also have a safety on them so they will only work when pressed up against something and if you bodge that then you have no barrel, accuracy or sights.
Decent ones are very expensive.
You're likely to have nails coming back at you.
Those are the cons I can think of.
I can't think of any pros.
Get an air pistol.

As above smaller units are going to do nothing larger units going to be potentially lethal to you . trust me seen one man nailed to a plank .. And another who ended up in Hull Royal Infirmary having had a "bounce out" where the nail failed to penetrate the steel and wood and let's put it nicely he was able to pee in 3 directions....
For the price of a nail gun a air pistol or several fenn traps

Trust me as a nail gun user you would be better off with a catàpult!! It's easy to hold the slide back on paslode types but nail guns aren't guns and can't be used as such unless you just want something to go bang!
Given a talent as an engineer you could probably adapt the firing system inside if a springer air gun but then it would probably be classed as a fire arm.

If guns are outlawed then only the outlaws will have guns....

I have nail guns, air guns and real firearms for comparison.
If you are really addressing pests and do not wish to deal with a SGC go with the air gun. It will be better than a nail gun even with the 12# limitation you folks live with.
If you are using the "pest control" term as a veiled reference to self defense neither the air gun or the nail gun are sufficient.

Seen similar myself . A plasterer fixing laths with a compressor powered nail gun , came back from lunch down the pub and put a couple into his hand. Alcohol was the cause for his accident but also stopped him feeling any great pain ......at least till he sobered up.Yorkshire Andy wrote:As above smaller units are going to do nothing larger units going to be potentially lethal to you . trust me seen one man nailed to a plank ..
Edit
Just to say that like a lot of people who have used nailguns there has been a "I wonder" moment when the idea of using it as an actual gun has occurred and probably like a lot of people I have , how shall we say , experimented. And like a lot of people who have experimented I have to say that they really don't make very good guns. Their accuracy is woeful , there's no barrel and the nails are designed to hold planks together not fly through the air and even if you actually hit the target there's very little chance of it hitting point first. Also that target has to be reasonably near, you could probably throw the nail further in many cases.

I've no plans for any of the above to stop, I like to live life on the edge.
