How the pioneers ate in Winter
How the pioneers ate in Winter
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

They also put their time and effort in, knowing that no-one else would help them to survive.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

An interesting read, I've never heard of a clamp before, basically an above ground root cellar, food for thought, in winter the ground is pretty waterlogged at mine.

The time and effort they put in was evident. It shows how tough they were, but also how soft we are today.

Re: How the pioneers ate in Winter
I remember reading about the settlers in New Zealand when I was a kid and living there, we have it soooooo good, its one thing fantasising about living like that but its bloody hard work, a bad year and people died. No passengers back then, I'll take today's lifestyle over it any (and every) day of the week. It was barbaric, no facebook or anything.......jansman wrote:The time and effort they put in was evident. It shows how tough they were, but also how soft we are today.

I can remember helping my dad set the clamps in the garden. It's a lot of work, but worth it. It was very rare to have a freezer in the 60's so this was a way have veg on hand. They didn't always work though and boy what a stink when you broke open a rotten one.Deeps wrote:An interesting read, I've never heard of a clamp before, basically an above ground root cellar, food for thought, in winter the ground is pretty waterlogged at mine.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain~anon
