Island Retreat
Re: Island Retreat
That's exactly what I want and at a price I can afford.
Shame it's about 2000 miles north west of where I want to be...

Re: Island Retreat
I thought that too Also , far too remote for Mrs J. if I am honest.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Re: Island Retreat
I love Orkney and that place looks fabulous! I had a whole 'I'm going to live in Orkney one day' phase until my sensible brain kicked in and went 'yes it's wonderful, but it's windy as heck all year round and dark for half of it!' I need to visit again, but this time in winter so I get a full picture.
Re: Island Retreat
Indeed. I also thought that. Don’t they burn peat up in those parts?

Re: Island Retreat
I love that except for the bed in the lounge and the choked fire with the log burner.
Re: Island Retreat
I think it's the Hebrides with the peat. Orkney has a lot of sandstone - at one point they were building entire houses out of it, including the beds! I suspect firewood is 'imported' from the Scottish Mainland.
Re: Island Retreat
Thanks for that information. So a wood burner would be unsustainable.
