Hi everyone.
I've been interested in prepping for years, but only really played at it. The current economic climate and political shambles makes me think that now
is the right time to take a bit more interest in this fascinating lifestyle.
My background is in education, but I lived off grid in Malawi for 2 years, and have been what is now called a bushcrafter for decades. My reason for being here, is that I want to learn more

Re: Hello from a noob
Things I want to learn more about:
Alternative power sources and heating systems.
Land availability and sourcing for off grid living.
Obviously both are big topics and I already spend a lot of time researching. I'm not looking for quick answers, because I know there aren't any.

Hello bigfish, welcome to the forum - yep, those are good reasons you quote for stepping things up a bit! Check through what we've got on here, and adjust to your own situation - city, suburban, rural, all sorts. And ask - there's some amazing experts on here.

Hi, welcome. I look forward to your posts. Any questions, just post on whatever thread seems applicable or start a new one.
The basics you need are
Water, filter and puri tabs
First aid
Smoke alarms
Food store
Camping stove and fuel (in case of power cuts or gas goes off)
Head torch(es) and hand torches
Warm clothes and water in your car if you drive long distances
Powerbank
Maybe a map and compass
Maybe a bugout bag of some sort, even if it's only aimed at bugging out to a hotel.
