Has everyone coped with the extreme cold?>

Just let the cats out ,and the temperature right now 4.50 am is 12 degrees C. Compared to well,Minus 8 at one point last week.

How has everyone coped? Have those struggling to pay managed?

It’s been interesting for us with our ( usual) country ways here. Wearing proper clothing ,rather than wandering round ,like a lot of folks do,in underwear! Whilst I was in hospital,it was fine. Outside though was a different matter ,but we were fine. Thankfully though,it’s ( to us!) warmer today!

Given my - indeed OUR massive change in incomes- I am looking with interest at comments.

Good test of heating in our new house. Lowest we saw was minus 12, plus 2 this morning. Combination of oil fired central heating & woodburner worked well. Extensive repairs & draught proofing since moving in have worked. Water pipe in the loft froze briefly (but not burst) so that's some more lagging to be fitted. Snows shifting really fast in the thaw so oil delivery (ordered 2 weeks ago) should reach us, thankfully I ordered way before necessary so no panic.
Gutters have survived the avalanches off the roof (always a bonus).
Had to use trickle charger on the 12v battery for the biodigester pump as solar panels weren't up to the job on the short overcast days.
Propane space heater works a treat in the workshop, may have to get a louder stereo though

Really? Was 12 here, in the middle of the night. Minus 11 recently. Crazy variation. Average is normally +2 or +1.

New boiler is easily coping, even on the -11 days, although obviously it takes time in the morning.

Correct me if wrong,but I believe Nurseandy is in Scotland? That’s a bit different in temperature to down here!

Snow still lying here but a lot less than it was. We just turned the heating up. Tiny house, very draughtproof and easy to heat - current D/D with Octopus is actually £3 a month - Added to the govt £67 that covers the bill nicely. Got £200 in credit so no need to worry about it and might as well enjoy the warmth while we can, it will get harder as winter goes on, I think.

NA is up in Aberdeenshire I think - they've had a nightmare with snow up there .

Lowest temp we had was -9.
The oil heating does not suffice at the temperature.
Wood stove on its own doesn't cut it (we are looking at a bigger model for next year).
Together, the lounge was warm.
2 adults will working from home did well to keep the heating off until lunchtime.
We all just added extra layers.

Excellent that. We just paid our electricity,and the discount REALLY helped. Mind you,it’s interesting how little we use by comparison to some .

Looking at the map, there was a big variation around Scotland. At 7am the Met map shows figures from +1 to +12.

Well Scotland is up towards the Arctic Circle. I think a native is allowed to say it’s cold.
