I have a few larger ziploc bags that are for maps. Obviously I have a proper map case. The ziplocs are for additional maps, kept in my bugout bag.

Apart from that, I think everything is grip seal. I bought loads, years ago. I wash them out and re-use them, so I rarely use a new one. I got various sizes. If I was buying them now I'd make sure they are food grade. I think most of the ones I have are, but some might not be, as I didn't think of it at the beginning.

I have some very thick ones that can stand up and hold boiling hot water. These are in my bugout bag for splitting freeze dried meals.

Ziploc is good if you have trouble opening grip seal.

Also I have several ultralight drybags of various sizes, for the bugout bag.

For your rucksack, you should consider a pack liner. You can just use a bin bag or a rubble bag. Or you can buy plastic ones, or ones made of waterproof material. My bugout bag has a large Osprey pack liner. Not the lightest, but very solid. It's basically a big drybag, so there's a hard strip at the top you roll over. But it's good enough for me just folded down. The problem with most drybags is you struggle to get all the air out so you waste space.

Also, you can fit more in a sack if it's all loose, and you just use a pack liner or rubble bag. However I personally use a pack liner and the ultralight dry bags. What you don't want is to be trying to cram several small football-like bags in, there's be a lot of wasted space, especially if they have air in.

If I was bugging out on the bike and had to ditch it, I might have to empty the individual dry bags into the sack liner to fit it all in. This would only be an issue in a long term bugout scenario. I have a separate bike pannier for that.

Hi thank you for the great advice , yes i do line the ruck sacks but it is for internal stuff so like hte packet soups i vac them down in to sets of 6 for the wife and i then we like to pop thme in grip seal bags as you never know plus grip seals always come in handy , i am mainly trying to find someone that supplies good quality ones , i have purchased from a few places over the years and now days most seem thin .

We like to make sure stuff is sealed and safe like undies and socks we put a couple of pairs in each bag for the wife and i and medication and so on , we have many bags ready to go from ammo bags to pure tool sacks and so on but i am also now doing a everyday bag that we will keep for days out car use one winter one summer so we have extra stuff we always carry in the car around 48 bottls of small water and hydration drinks that is a health thing for me but we are looking at extra stuff now and as i said the grip bags we are looking for good quality that someone has used .

thanks for the info it always helps when someone gives you a pointer , where do you get your dry bags from

I prefer ziplock. I find the Ikea ISTAD bags are sturdy and use them to organise craft supplies. They go up to quite a large size. I have also recently been pleased with the "Hero" branded ziplocks from Sainsburys which were much sturdier than I expected. I have been using them when curing belly pork to make streaky bacon.

Come in two sizes, good quality for the price, wish they did a smaller size.

The drybags I use are Exped Ultralight (UL). They do some heavier ones, and it can be confusing as sellers sometimes have confusing descriptions. So you need to buy from a reliable seller eg https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/fold-drybag-ul/

Gripseal bags were off ebay, they are fairly thin, so they don't play a big role in my bugout gear, they are more for day to day use.

As you say, pack liner PLUS drybags of gripseal backs is safest, and keeps things organised.

The drybag organisation I use is:

Size Capacity Weight
XXSmall - Lime 1 Litre 10g bits and bobs, also have one that's not UL for similar stuff in my bugout bag lid
XSmall - Orange 3 Litres 12g one for powerbank, one for coin towels, wet wipes, sanitiser, toilet paper
Small - Yellow 5 Litres 16g socks, base layer
Medium - Red 8 Litres 20g sleeping bag
Large - Blue 13 Litres 24g quilt
XLarge - Emerald Green 22 Litres 30g food
XXLarge - Cyan 40 Litres 44g bugout base layers (not in bugout bag)

I use Ziplock and I usually buy a variety pack from Amazon.
