Do a First Aid course

Post by axelt123 »

If you dont have any experience with first aid its worth doing and doesnt cost much and it could save someones life or your own mayby and you could add it to your CV. I had just undertaken it again as i need to renew it. This is my local course:

Emergency First Aid at Work
Cost: £75
Course length: 1 day
Awarding body: HSE

Aim of the course:
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) training enables a first aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work.

Employers should use the findings of their first aid needs assessment to help them decide whether first aiders should be trained in First Aid at Work (FAW) or EFAW. If the needs of the workplace require FAW trained first aiders to be provided, it is not an acceptable alternative to provide EFAW first aiders.

The course will provide the delegate with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the requirements for first aid support, within the terms of the Health & Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981.

What the course involves:
Introduction
The role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions
The importance of basic hygiene in first aid procedures
Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
Administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure
Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Administering first aid to a casualty who is wounded, bleeding, choking and/or in shock and provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries
Assessment:
There is ongoing assessment on this course. All candidates will be awarded a certificate that is valid for 3 years.

Definately something that most if not all should undertake.

I gained my FAAW certification about 3 months ago through my employer however I have been looking at other courses (Advanced first aid) also through a company called Crown Medical Training based down in here in Wales(swansea area) not affiliated too them just a company that had a link on another website I was browsing.

http://www.crownmedicaltraining.co.uk is the site with a wide range of courses available.
