Help Needed

Post by andy prepper »

Im going away to USA of shortly and Im heading to area prone for tornados, I knew this when I booked up and was not that bothered at first, but know Im quite worried as the area where I was going to be staying has been been hit by a torrnado http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13509683.

Now this has got me thinking should I take any preps just in case the worst does happen. I dug out my survival tin and there is few things I can take like compass, lighter and water purification tablets. There lot I can not take like small knife for instance as will not be allowed on plane . So if anybody got any sugestions of things I should think about takeing, aslong it we be allowed on plane and its not to heavy please share. :D
I never know mayble the ash cloud may cause me not get out of the UK hopefully not.

You could take the knife in your suitcase, though, surely? But you need to check the local laws about carrying it round with you.

I wouldn't have a clue what to do in a tornado. Doesn't t'interweb have any advice? If the area is prone to tornadoes then surely the local authority would have some advice? Or ask a travel agent for the area?

I posted something on UKP that was written by someone on an American forum about tornadoes/hurricanes -they are WELL organised over the pond for this type of thing.

What you cant take with you, can you purchase out there? Blades may well be allowed through the cargo hold, but dont lock up your baggage - it will only get broken open at the other end!! Have you thought about looking up users on the survival boards who are local to your intended area for some help, guidance (on cheap suppliers out there), resources on emergency plans out there, and to give you a 'briefing' before getting your feet on their soil?? Definitely worth thinking about - something I would definitely do and have done in the past.....

Not telling you how to suck eggs, but be a bit careful on what you tell and who, if at all, you meet with for help, resources, etc just to keep opsec out there mate. :) ;)

When I went to SF recently I had 2 SAK's packed in the luggage, nothing in the hand luggage. When I came back I had added a Leatherman to the collection as well and had no problems at all.

Maybe do a post on one of the US prepper sites asking if anyone has any local knowledge of the area you are staying in ?

Following on from the topic; I'm off to Malaysia and the Thai coast soonish and the obvious terrorism/tsunami/political unrest etc thoughts come to mind.
Has anyone else travelled with this backdrop in mind and what advice/equipment would one recommend taking from the UK?
