Context: Young family with small kids, UK-based, suburban area of a major city.
I’d appreciate any input on this go-bag system which is a modular 2-bag system:
BAG 1: Essential Bag
- packed any time we head out of town in case of minor emergencies, getting stranded , medical scenarios, etc.

Note: No insulating layers because in a situation where I’m only using this bag I would almost certainly have access to the car (see below)
BAG 2: Extended Bag
- modular add-on to Bag 1 which is only used for major disasters, evacuations, military attack, civil unrest, etc.
1 spare lighter
Water filtration bag and purification tablets
Clear plastic bags
Spare lightweight water bottle
Wooly hat for each family member
3x socks for each family member
Down gilet or fleece jacket for each family member
Large wool blend military surplus blanket
Tarpaulin sheet

I don’t yet know if this is 2 separate bags or if there would ideally be a way to physically attach them together as a modular system.
