Seeds

Post by CardiffGuy »

I've been thinking about the future, self sustainability and self growth when the economy goes deep south.

I am across this site http://www.arkinstitute.com/ that sells non GMO (non genetically modified) seeds and would like peoples opinions on these seeds as I was thinking of buying non GMO seeds and storing them in sealed 5ltr plastic tubs.

I've heard of a place whilst browsing t'internet where NON GMO seeds for plants, food etc are frozen in an apparent secure facility in the ice based in a giant underground ice safe.

Yeah I bought pretty much all my seeds from realseed.co.uk this year, been really impressed with the Telephone Peas, they're about 8ft and covered in pods. :D

Many GM seeds only last one year and then you have to buy more because they do not reseed themselves.

Just another way of controlling the food supply and in turn, the population. Stock up on seeds while you can.

If we can control our own food it is one less thing they have to blackmail us with. :tinfoil

Many thanks for the useful info ladies and gents, to say its appreciated is an understatement.

Having looked on the site, the other half is in agreement that growing our own is the way forward and so as we have quite a substantial amount left over at the end of every month from our salaries means prepping is going to be a bit easier with seeds and storing these for the future being part of this.

Hi Cardiff,
Nice to know you are in a financially confortable position. (Can you lend me a tenner?) ;)

If I had spare money at the end of each month, most would go on food. If you hit hard times or there is just a break in supply's to the supermarket, you are set up. As long as you have a roof over your head and a way of purifying water, food would be my next priority.

Make a list of things you want/need for you prepping and put them in order of which is most important to you. Then set yourself a target of trying to buy at least one at the end of each month. Before you know it you will be ready for the end of the world. :tinfoil Happy Days.

Be lucky (and accoutered)

Bladerunner,

The list is something I am working on(if someone has a comprehensive list they can share or would like tidying up - if you could drop me a pm and I will work some excel magic to sort it out it would be appreciated), seeds are just one minor part of this, I wont disclose my full financial situation but having in excess of £500 of disposable income after all bills, rent, petrol, living expenses etc will now start to help.

My proposed plans for though are to split this with half going on preps(seeds, getting wheat grain and rice in bulk) and the other in cash for a rainy day.
