End of an Era

Post by Bladerunner »

Yesterday I drove 5 miles to my favourite pound shop with 15 quid burning a hole in my sticky little mits.

I must have garnered some strange looks as I stood outside the closed down shop, staring through teary eyes at the empty shelves within.

My eyes scoured the shop front for any sign of a note that might say "WE HAVE MOVED", but to no avail. Only a barren, dimly lit facade returned my gaze.

By now my body was shaking uncontrollably at my loss. I remembered our secretive relationship, with me slipping away from wifey while she was inASDA, and handing over my shiny pound coins, like a naughty schoolboy, in exchange for amazing little trinkets I could take home and treasure in the secluded back bedroom that houses my secret stash.

I don't know how long I stood there, engulfed in my sorrow, knowing we could never return to how things used to be. Finally I wiped the tears from eyes, drew my shoulders back and walked the 50 yards to the other pound shop round the corner.

Be lucky (and reminiscent)

All other pound shops pailed into insignificance when compared ot this one.

They just seemed to have better stuff than all the others. For example they would do massive bars of chocolate that were a week out of date and do them 4 for a pound. Bounville, Cadbury's etc.

They also did a lot of Gone Outdoors stuff which is normally more than a quid everywhere else.

The pound shop round the corner from them has very little stuff when it comes to prepping and not as good quality.

We don't even have a Poundland despite living in a town with a population of 200,000. Lots of pound stores, just no Poundland.

Be lucky (and frugal)
