Just wondering how many radio hams we have on here or folks with radio kit
I managed to get a couple of radios of evilbay the other day
http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/th77a.html
http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/ht/th205at.html
total for the 2 units was £63 inc postage which I thought was a good deal but now I need to do a foundation course to get up and running so that I have a callsign when working with a 4x4 responce group
Any hints or tips would be great and did we ever get a SOP regarding comms freq ect so that if we live within repeater range we can talk share info

Max,
The foundation course will teach you all you need to know to get going, and you will even get to make a supervised QSO
I really enjoyed the course, if you need any help post course just gimme a shout

Scoobie thanks for the reply and I will give you a shout in the future I'm ok with most signals stuff just new to Ham finding it a bit strange at times reading other forums and then trying to workout what the military version was makes it simple for me to understand

Re: 2mtr Radio
When I pass the exam and get a call sign I will post it on here so that any 2mtr or 70cm radio owners in the east yorkshire area can give me a shout
I like the idea of comms that dont rely on a company to supply the signal I know what repeaters can be switched off at any stage but my next move will be HF but at this time I would feel better working with my 4x4 responce group with a legal callsignon 2mtr

Re: 2mtr Radio
I've got my ticket, I don't like talking to other hams (longlist of reasons but no need to bring this thread down) but its useful for talking to friends which also got their tickets which is why we all got them. I like making things and digital, not the people so much.

Re: 2mtr Radio
Metron that is one of the reasons I want my ticket is to chat with mates when out and about not realy interested in what radio you have or your set up or your state of health or your latest gizmo that is what always seem to be on the air it is so that I can co-ord with mates if things go wrong or were to rv at the moment CBs dont cut the mustard perhaps if they move to SSB like the EU is talking about might help a tad
