I have been sorting out a little shed for my genny on and off for the last few months to quieten it down a bit (quite a lot actually...it's bloody loud ). I'm pretty much ok sound wise now, it will never be quiet but at least it isnt going to wake the whole neighbourhood. It still may annoy the next door neighbour but I can bribe them by letting them put their food in my freezer.
The problem I am having is with the exhaust. I want to add a section of pipe (preferably flexible hose) so that I can run the exhaust outside of the shed and either up above the roof or into a hole etc. The problem is that the outside diameter of the exhaust is 18mm and the smallest flexible hose I can find is 20mm (inside diameter). Anyone got any ideas on how I can connect the two that doesn't involve any welding.
I dont want to do any welding for 2 reasons, first...I haven't got a welder, and second...it will cost me money if I get someone else to do it
Thinking about it a bit more, I might just fit an Extraction Fan into the wall of the shed. Its not as if anyone can fit in the shed with the genny, it's too small an area. I would need to fit one fan to blow some cool air onto the motor anyway so I suppose fitting two of them shouldnt be a problem (and probably a cheaper option)
If u go for the pipe plan - you could make 2 or more slits an inch or so down the pipe, then when you jubilee clip it over the exhaust pipe, it will crush down a bit. Then maybe some Holts exhaust putty from local car spares shop to finish it off and solve any small leaks
