The Watchmakers Rattle - Thinking our way out of extinction by Rebecca D Costa
A fascinating book about how when society becomes more complex, man substitutes belief for science.
The first sign is gridlock where leaders and governments become unable to solve chaotic problems that then migrate from one generation to the next increasing in both magnitude and peril.
The second sign is where we replace facts with unproven beliefs. When the facts surrounding a problem become too complex to discern, we make decisions based upon what we believe to be true. This does not solve the problem and the cycle continues.
Not the easiest read in places but thought provoking nonetheless giving a new(ish) perspective on issues such as peak oil and climate change.
