The Most Important Prep Of All

Post by Red Doe »

Is your health. I've recently found this out with one thing after another and realised something I knew all along all over again...
That old cliche, if you don't have your health, you have nothing, is absolutely, one hundred percent, true.
All the prep in the world won't make any difference if your health fails.
So about the most important thing, imo, is to care for our health, to take as many preventative measures as we can to stop illness and disease, and to hoard as many meds and first aids as we can in case the worst happens.
Perhaps a wee bit more controversial might be, self teach yourself at least basic first aid and about as many likely minor ailments as you can. In other words, become your own physician for the time when you might not have access to one.
This morning I went out the door to go the outbuilding I work in. Due to the constant ( and thoroughly depressing) rain we've had, the path is slippy. Down I went, cracking my knee which is now swelling, bruised, and hurting like a bugger! :(
I'm ok..reminded me of scrapes when I was a kid climbing trees and playing on swings...but it did reinforce the need to be as prepped as you can be for medical emergencies and minor things.
In an emergency of course, I call an ambulance (air ambulance in these parts) but supposing it isn't available? Makes sense to know what to do.
I keep a couple of small drawers in the kitchen full of basic meds...painkillers, prescription meds, bandages, etc. I also keep an emergency dental kit.
I'm great in another persons' medical crisis but not my own self  but lately I've been forcing myself to learn as much as I can about as many likely illnesses and diseases as I can, and what the layman can do in such cases.

Hope your knee isn't too sore, and that you carried out (P)RICE immediately.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

You are quite right Red Doe. Our health is the most important thing. We have to consider the risk element when doing things rather than just rushing in. We need to think about how would we get help if we injured ourselves etc or if we take to our beds with the flu.
Ensuring we have the right kit and skills will help.

Hope your knee doesn't give you too much pain. Take Care.

Ouch! Do you have any arnica gel to bring the bruising out? You can't use it on cuts or grazes though.

Yes, you're right about health being a top priority. I am going to start taking my vitamin tablets again now that winter is on its way.

I've read in lots of places that one way to cut down on the inflammation in the body is to cut out sugar. Sugar apparently is a poison to the system.

But don't tell Lil as it'll mean she has to throw all her sweeties away .......

You know,I thought i was indestructible. I never felt so bad in my life as these last few weeks.

Health HAS to be our greatest asset.

In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

How true!! I also have been one to feel indestructible but now as I get "slightly" :? older I realise the need for good health. It doesn't matter how much we prep store or plan if we get bed ridden then game up!!! My problem is that I'm one of the people who get called to rescue people when they get in trouble but never thought what if I'm sick!!

So look after yourself and your family, involve them in your prepps even if they think your mad ask them to humour you cause if your unwell and you have all the plans and prep but can't act you need your family to get the ball rolling should a situation arise you may not be able to deal with :)
