Aloe Vera

Post by Carrot Cruncher »

Me and food have a love hate relationship, I love food but my stomach doesn't...i wont go into any further detail :D . The problem has been getting worse lately (had a checkup and they just said IBS after doing some tests) but it is now starting to be a real issue. Even normal sized meals are starting to cause problems.

Anyway, I have just been told about Aloe Vera juice and the fact that it can help your digestive system, checked online and found lots of sites that agree but then again they are selling the stuff, so does any of you herbal knowledgey types happen to know if it works ?

And also, can we grow it in the UK ?

I'm having to eat like a bleeding sparrow these days and i'm missing my slabs of steak :D

Yes, I have grown aloe vera before. I don't know if it works for IBS, however.

Peppermint oil in capsules is supposed to be good for IBS.

I had an extremely bad stomach problem a few years ago, with many of the symtoms usually associated with IBS. So bad I had to take time off work - I was in agony with stomach spasms. I took something from Holland and Barratt, which seemed to do the trick, along with a very bland diet for a while. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was. It will come to me at some point...

I went and had some blood tests (what they can rule in and out from them i'm not sure) and they said that they came back clear and that it sounds like ibs. I dont get stressed (unless anyone mentions comets and lizards :D ) so they put it down to diet. I keep cutting things out but it doesnt make any difference.

I might just buy a bottle of the juice and see how it goes and if it does help i will try and grow some

On the plus side I have lost the extra few lbs I have been carrying

Will look at the peppermint oil as well, thanks itsy

Get it in capsule form, so that it dissolves in the stomach - seems to be more effective than chugging a mouthful of liquid.

CC , How much daily exercise do you get ?? I'm not talking about anything to extreme but a daily walk can do wonders for your gut and synch your system. No scientific evidence for that statement just what I know and have experienced. :D

You can grow aloe vera in a pot at home, that's what we do and if we need it for a smoothie or something then we just cut a bit off it. I don't know if it works for ibs but it's great for flu/cold - drink 2 small glasses of it a day with 1 lemon and some honey - helps every time.

I havent heard of it used for stomach probs. Peppermint oil capsules yes, UNLESS you get heartburn. if you do then they will make it much worse. There are Digestive Enzymes you get, I cannot think of a name for them, but they really help all sorts of tummy stuff. Worked wonders for my husband who has pernicious anaemia and that causes stomach/digestion probs.
