How are you preparing

I have been stocking up on stuff from Tesco, 1kg bags of white rice 40p each, can't go wrong, I know you need water to cook the rice, so have been buying 2ltr bottles of cheap water, spam, tinned fruit, corned beef etc etc, all for rotation mind.

That's about all I can do because of my housing situation, I'm in a down stairs terraced flat, with a back yard rather than garden.

If I had a garden I would for sure look into building an underground shelter, and have a chicken coop, but I'm limited for prepping because of my housing situation,

Yes Eatmore, imagine having a back garden, most situations could be covered with an underground bunker full of food, water, meds etc...

I'm on the council list for a home move because of this very reason, my location now is prime target area if the nuclear shtf, an under the stairs cupboard of supplies would not help me, however, they are worth having for other reasons, but a move to a property with a back garden would be a dream come true.

My prepping catchphrase is "Something is better than nothing."

Just thinking through various difficulties, and what you need to do to prepare for them (even if you can't do it all right now), and what alternatives there might be, puts you way ahead of the general population.

Having a little extra in the larder is always a good thing. I'd say you have made a great start, Rayman! You didn't just think about it and then ignore it - you've gone out and done!

I also have some restrictions on me. We do whatever we can and we carry on doing it I guess.
Maybe also work out where your skills and knowledge lie and try and bond with people in your community who might need them.
Just a thought.

the thing with prepping is with me its like a disease now im infected thats it , it starts with some food stores ,then outdoor equipment, then it incubates as i contemplate a worst case breakdown, when reality hits it went full blown and my mentality is im "all in " , i have friends who tell me " im getting a new 3d tv i tell them im buying candles haha

I thnk prepping changes your mindset. You start to ask do I need that new gadget or new pair of shoes? The money would be better spent on food stocks or equipment. I  at friends who are off shopping every Saturday but have very little food in the house or fuel in the car!

Rayman, depending on how big your yard is,you could grow stuff in containers.
A water butt, for emergency water..use various methods to filter, clean etc.
small chicken/rabbit coop?
sprout seeds indoors..alfalfa..very good for vitamins i believe.
maybe small pots on window sills.

You could also look into Allotments and Community Allotments for a bit of land to grow stuff on, you might be lucky.

Landshare might be worth a look too, they put people in contact with others who have spare land http://www.landshare.net/

Even before I got more into prepping I started this summer with a small veg patch and some plastic containers. The patch is about 6'x4' made from some OSB I had left over and we got great peas, courgettes, Kale and other stuff out of it. I made loads of jars of lovely chutney and the Kale just keeps on going. You really don't need a lot of space at all.
