How to make a 16 brick rocket stove

Post by itsybitsy »

This looks incredibly easy to make. The one in the video is made from Adobe bricks but I would assume that a common or garden house brick would do the job just as well.

Housebricks do work. I built one last year using that clip. Great find Itsybitsy! This thing works, costs next to nowt and uses little fuel.

It does look good, and simple enough that even my diy skills can manage

I will have to have a go at some point.

You could do a "range" of four of them so you have more hobs to cook on in the spring, summer and autumn

Brilliant! We just had some work done in our garden which resulted in a lot of left over bricks that we were planning to use as some form of BBQ... now im going to build a rocket stove!!

:D So.. for some feedback!

Today i made this!

I found there were a few modifications i had to make as i didnt have every thing exactly as the video.... I used a layer of doubled up tinfoil as the base to keep the surface clean.. then i built the chimney stack. I had troubled finding very dry twigs and found it quite difficult to light the fire and then keep it going via the front opening.. but once i changed to kindling and kept the fire burning by adding wood bits via the top opening then we really got going.. virtually no smoke, unless twigs were not really dry or my face was very close to the oven , then it stung my eyes a little but overall pretty smooth.. stuck a pot of water on and tho it took a while to heat, we had our first meal of Spicy prawn noodles!!

I have a whole load more bricks and may now attempt to build some form of outdoor wood burning oven!

That's brilliant. I am going to have a go at this, too.

I do have a question, though. Do I need something as a 'base' to stop the stove scorching the ground? I have decking and lawn in my garden, neither of which I want to burn!

Hiya

I would say yes.. we have a low built wall that i used but i laid the tinfoil on the area that would burn... U can prolly pick up a cheap patio slab that wouldnt matter if it got scorched.. Or lay a layer of bricks as the base then build up from that?..
Was really good fun to try out.. Good luck with it! :D
